Nearly a hundred people were able to get within feet of the front door the Governor’s Mansion after protesters breeched the fencing that surrounds the property Wednesday afternoon.

Watch started out as a peaceful rally on the steps of the State Capitol by more than 400 supporters of President Trump, turned tenuous after they marched to the front gate of the mansion 200 yards away.

The protest, called "Operation Occupy the Capitol," was held as lawmakers gathered in Washington D.C. to count the Electoral College vote and certify president-Elect Joe Biden’s win in the presidential election ahead of his inauguration on Jan. 20.

At the time of the rally, protesters were aware of the actions taking place in Washington DC.

For almost an hour, the demonstrators wandered inside the mansion’s perimeter until reinforcements from the State Patrol brandishing military style weapons were able to move people off the grounds.

No tear gas was used and there were no arrests.

While the protest started off peaceful, a group of about 30 demonstrators broke through barriers to the governor's mansion Wednesday afternoon. Washington State Patrol says Governor Jay Inslee and his family are safe and in a different location.

Protesters breached the gate surrounding the mansion and were pounding on the door. State troopers worked to clear the grounds Wednesday afternoon.

It is unknown if any arrests were made.

Washington State Senate Majority Leader Andy Billig (D-Spokane) released the following the statement on Wednesday’s events in Washington D.C. and Olympia:

“We all have the right to protest, but we all also have a responsibility to not cross the line into intimidation or violence. Today at our state capital and in our nation’s capital, we have seen that line crossed. I condemn any violence, intimidation and destruction in the strongest terms possible."

The process, laid out by the Constitution and federal law, is usually just ceremonial. However, many Republicans had said they planned to object the count.

The State Patrol says it’s going to review why the mansion’s grounds were breached and so many people made it inside.

“We will look into how we responded and anyway we can do better” says Sargent Darrin Wright of the State Patrol. The department is responsible for protecting the grounds as well as the Governor.

One protester quoted Thomas Jefferson after the crowd was removed from the mansion grounds.

“If the people fear the government you have tyranny, if the government fears the people you have liberty, we are hear standing up for those” said John Freeman.

The legislative session begins on Monday and a spokesman for the Patrol says the department is preparing for protests to begin that day at the Capitol.

In Washington D.C., a group of rioters breached the Capitol building, forcing lawmakers to evacuate and putting a pause on the Electoral College vote.
