Walt Willey Talks on His Return to ABC Daytime Dramas from All My Children to General Hospital

Photo: ABC

Yesterday’s episode of General Hospital, marked the first of a three-episode appearance by former All My Children star, Walt Willey.  Not only did Willey return to another ABC daytime drama series, but he is appearing as his Pine Valley character of legal eagle, Jackson Montgomery.

Willey shared scenes on Wednesday’s show with Kristina Wagner and Lynn Herring as Felicia and Lucy travel from Port Charles to Pine Valley to do some snooping and sleuthing on Lucy’s current love interest, Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight).

In a series of tweets, following his first GH episode, Willey shared: “I am at a loss for words (a very rare condition in my case) over the outpouring of generous, kind and supportive posts – here, in chatrooms, on GH’s social media – regarding my General Hospital debut. In a word: WOW! I cannot thank you all enough for loving and caring for me and ‘Jackson’ for almost 25 years on (and off!) AMC to the point where, 12 years after AMC went ‘dark,’ ‘Jackson’ — and his portrayer — still ‘have legs.’ I’ve said it more than once, but it bears saying again — soap fans are the greatest fans of all! Thank you so much! See you on General Hospital on Monday, July 17 and Tuesday, July 18!”

Meanwhile, as Walt had promoted over the last few days, the beloved AMC veteran was part of several ABC affiliate station press interviews discussing: how it came about he landed on GH (with an assist from former AMC castmate and friend Michael E. Knight), how it was getting back into the rigors of shooting a daytime soap opera when it had been over 12 years since he worked on one, and more.

You can check out two of them below.  One, from his current hometown in Nashville at WKRN News 2  where he appeared in studio, and another from ABC 7 Chicago via his mini-satellite media tour.

A fun fact that was revealed to the hosts, Willey is currently married to Nashville singer/songwriter Sarah Kaine, whereas the love of his on-screen life on All My Children was, of course, Erica Kane (Susan Lucci).

What have you thought of Walt’s appearance thus far on GH? Hope the soao brings him back for more episodes? What do you think is going on with Martin, in story? What is he hiding? Let us know your thoughts and theories via the comment section below.

Please bring Walt Willey back as Jackson Montgomery full-time. We want to see Jackson every day.!!!

Yes

Am I the only one who noticed he had about 3 lines to speak… a disappointing come-back.

It’s 3 episodes. It’s just supposed to be a fun “look it’s Jackson!” moment. It’s not some major appearance.

matt mathews,
With those two magpies, who could get a word in edgewise?

Only 2 more episodes? I was hoping he would be recurring.

Here’s hoping next week’s scenes are a bit more in-depth with at least a mention of Erica Kaine. Erica vs. Lucy would be epic.

I think they should try and get Susan Lucci on the show and have Erica Kane have a health crisis, I know Susan had a heart condition and is now a spokesperson for the American heart association. GH can along w/ Susan Lucci bring that to light, Daytime especially GH has done a good job in bringing Alzheimer, Aids, and breast cancer to the forefront, this would be great.

Well, Martin’s third wife lives in Pine Valley and she’s wealthy enough to pay him 50 K a month in alimony. Who is rich enough to pay Martin that kind of money? Erica Kane. Traci is talking to someone from Pine Valley with connections to the Deceptor beauty product. Erica runs a cosmetic company. Traci could really use a strong person to go toe to toe with. Monica is always upstairs, Ned is skipping around swimming pools, and Brook Lynn just stands there weakly with her mouth hanging open. I say Jackson Montgomery AND Erica Kane is the medicine we didn’t know we needed right now. The writing for GH has been largely joyless- we could use a little bit of fun even if it is just temporary.

Walt Willey- a class act- always will- always has been

Yes

Love Walt, but definitely without the facial hair, makes him look older.

General Hospital’s Michael Easton Delivers the ‘Power Performance of the Week’

Last week over several episodes, General Hospital, handed the ball to one of their longstanding MVP’s Michael Easton (Finn), and he took it all the way in for a touchdown. The backdrop was the lead up to, and then the heartbreaking death of Finn’s father, Gregory Chase (played by Gregory Harrison), and its aftermath.

Through it all, Easton gave every scene its weight, made every scene compelling, and brought us, and we are certain many viewers, to tears throughout it. There is no question come Emmy-time 2025, this is one of the performances that must be remembered, and Michael has the scenes for his reel to back that up.

The set-up was coming off of Finn’s brother, Chase’s (Josh Swickard) wedding to Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton). Gregory asked the nuptials be a bit fast-tracked to ensure he could be present for it, for he was suffering from the illness for which there is no cure, ALS.  At the wedding reception, Finn slipped and took a sip of a glass of champagne, which began to break his seven years of sobriety.

Once back from the reception, Finn and his dad, have the ultimate father/son talk, knowing they are on borrowed time. Finn and Gregory have also had a very strained relationship at one point; due to both’s involvement with Jackie Templeton. But with all that behind them, and in the present, Gregory was able to tell Finn how proud he was of him, and Finn said the same to his dad. There were tears, we all bawled, and then it was time to get Gregory ready for bed. Due to his symptoms from ALS, Gregory needs help getting undressed. Finn helps out his dad, before telling him goodnight. Gregory flashes back to his life and seemingly falls asleep, but he never wakes up.

The next morning, Finn finds him cold and dead in his bed and sits on the floor at his dad’s bedside and weeps. Overwhelmed and alone, Finn pours himself a drink from the bottle left as a gift by the Cerullos. He has now lost his sobriety, completely. Things get even tougher for Finn when his daughter, Violet (Jophielle Love) comes home from school and he has to tell her that her grandfather died. He also had to call his brother, who was about to leave on his honeymoon, and tell him the bad news.

After having a bit more to drink, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) stops by and they have an argument over his drinking and his unwillingness to let her take Violet with her for the night, which puts a strain in their relationship. Later, when Chase and Brook Lynn show up they can both see that Finn hit the bottle. When Chase finally gets some one-on-one time with his brother, he is able to get through to him.

While mourning the loss of his father, Finn realizes he needs to get cleaned up and get to a meeting. For Finn, as he recounted, having to witness the paramedics taking Gregory’s lifeless body with them was something no son wants to see and was more they could bear.

It was all heart-wrenching, beat by beat. Easton gave us all the layers and complexities and took us inside what Finn was feeling and how he was trying to cope with this terrible loss and tragedy. For all of these reasons, and those cited above, Michael Fairman TV names Michael Easton’s work, the Power Performance of the Week.

Now let us know, do you agree with our pick of Michael Easton for his work on GH for ‘Power Performance’ honors? And what moment from the episodes discussed above really brought you to tears the most? Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Tracy Learns Gregory Died from Cody; Finn and Chase Share Their Grief

Friday’s May 24th episode of General Hospital featured some very touching scenes.

First, when Tracy (Jane Elliot) returned to the stables for a ride, she is met by Cody (Josh Kelly). He tells her she is needed in the house. Tracy doesn’t think anyone needs her there.

Tracy relates how Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) are on a plane to Florence. Cody tells her that they couldn’t get on that plane. Cody can only say, “He’s sorry.” It’s at that moment Tracy is hit with the realization that Gregory passed away.

Cody tells her what he knows of Gregory’s passing, but Tracy says that she knew this was eventually going to happen, but this feels so sudden. Cody is sorry she had to hear the news from him.  Tracy says, she’s not. She poignantly thinks Gregory must have been a lot like Cody when he was younger. Tracy goes on to say they both have an open way about them as he doesn’t miss a thing, doesn’t talk much, doesn’t push people around, and that he gives people a lot of grace. Cody is moved. Tracy decides she needs to head out.

Next, Tracy comes to the hospital and meets with Stella. Knowing Stella (Vernee Watson) is a patient advocate, Tracy tells her if anything comes up for Gregory’s death regarding bills or anything she can handle with her hands or her checkbook, to let her know. Tracy reveals that she doesn’t want Gregory’s family to worry about anything right now. She goes on to say to keep her name out of it.

Stella tells Tracy this is her loss to and its OK for her to grieve. Tracy shared that Gregory changed her, and she doesn’t want to let him down, at least not so soon.

At Finn’s, Chase tries to console his brother. Finn tells Chase he also lost his dad, but Chase can see how hard finding Gregory dead has hit Finn; given he has been drinking. Finn tells Chase that the person he found in that bed didn’t look their dad.  He cries that he didn’t want this to happen and Chase hugs his brother tight and says neither did he.

Sitting down together, the two brothers have a heart-to-heart. Finn realizes he handled the entire situation the wrong way and even pushed Elizabeth away.  Chase says there is no correct way to grieve. Finn feels such guilt over how many times in their lives he hurt their father, and now he threw his sobriety away, which Gregory was proud of him for.

Chase says he rebuilt his relationship with their dad, and he can do the same now with his sobriety. Finn asks Chase to get rid of the liquor bottle and so Chase takes care of it.  When Violet (Jophielle Love) and Brook Lynn return, Finn tells Brook Lynn he is so sorry that she and Chase had to miss their honeymoon. Brook Lynn assures him she is here for him for whatever he needs. Next, Finn says he needs a meeting and Chase says he thinks that is a good idea.

Meanwhile, in Albany, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) is having all sorts of trouble in her attempt to get her law license reinstated during her her hearing vs. Fergus Byrne (Lane Davies). The judges will render their decision within 30 days and notify the parties. Will she head back to Port Charles, find out about Gregory, and wind up at an AA meeting with Finn?

In this episode, the always fabulous Jane Elliot touched out hearts in her scenes as well as Josh Kelly, Michael Easton and Josh Swickard.

So, what did you think about Tracy’s reaction to Gregory’s death? The scenes between Finn and Chase and what will happen to Alexis next? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
