Locked out of old BB Curve. I need the pictures off of the phone but cant remember PW. HELP.
i havent used this phone in forever and it might have pictures of my mom before she passed. ive tried remembering the password but im on my 9th attempt..... ive download the blackberry software on my PC but it also requires the password to sync with the phone.
Is there any way to get around this without having the wipe the phone? The photos are all i care about.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... BlackBerry is known for strong security. Unless you know someone at the NSA, you need to come up with the password. If the pics are on the SD card, you can just pop the card and put it in another device, unless the card is encrypted too. Sorry...
It doesnt have a card in it anymore. I assumed the picture would be saved to the phone itself but now that i think about it i dont even remember if you could save pics directly to the phone memory on that phone.
If they are on the phone itself, do you think if i send it to blackberry if they will pull the pictures for me? I dont know if they even still exist as a company anymore lol.
They still exist, but they're almost wholly devoted to doing security-focused enterprise software. Up until recently they've been making Android-based phones via TCL, but that contract expired recently. There's another company (Onward Focus?) in Austin, TX that is gearing up to make more Android-based BB phones with physical keyboards (hopefully a horizontal keyboard!).
As for your phone, it's very unlikely they could (or would) help you. My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that they use "trust no one" encryption using public key cryptography, where your password is used to make the public / private key pair (which BlackBerry is not privy to). They *do* have a way of accessing your BBM messages, but I've never heard of them being able to access phone contents.
Again, I could be wrong (and I'm NOT a cryptography expert). You could ask them, but I wouldn't just mail the phone to them blindly - you may never see it again...
Wondering if you ever found a solution for this?
Unfortunately not. Blackberries are practically impossible to get into.
So even if I was to somehow get into my BB ID on the internet, there's no getting into that phone without the password is there?
Worst part is I cheaped out on trying to repair the screen when I smashed it 9 years ago. I should've bought a whole screen assembly instead of just the digitizer. I'd have avoided this very problem. I don't even care for Blackberry Messenger, I just want the pics I saved on there and it pains me to think I'll never be able to see them again š¬
