I have to say for the last few years Charlie's has been one of our favorite go to places. The food was always exceptional until last month. Our last 2 visits have been a huge disappointment. Last month I ordered the filet cooked medium rare....My steak was delivered cold and raw . I substituted the risotto for potatoes and they pastey and tasteless. My steak was thrown back on the grill and returned to me medium -well, also bland and tasteless with no flavor whatsoever. My husbands dinner was fish and it was clearly old and frozen fish that was chewy and bland. While I believe everyone has an off night we decided to try again with Sunday brunch.. I ordered steak and eggs poached with béarnaise sauce. the béarnaise was watery, the steak was supposed to be medium rare and I for a bland , overcooked medium well steak with burnt outside. My daughter's truffle fries were French fries were over cooked , dried out with parmesan and shaved mozzarella on top, nothing truffle about the. The bread pudding and ice cream was good but the serving size was 2 spoonful's on an oversized plate. And hey I get it, COVID has screwed alot of things up , but this is just down right sadMore

Wonderful experience top to bottom! The tostada app special was phenomenal, the spring rolls a great bite! The bread was a little plain jane but lets be honest it checks the box as no one truly comes here for the bread. The mignon and salmon...entrees were superb. Most of all our views were immaculate with the outdoor seating! From a pleasant view of the lake and canal it was immaculate! Our waitress’ guided us beautifully through some of the popular items as well as creating a warm environment! Thank you!More

The last time we were there I ordered a steak which was bland, no seasoning whatsoever .. And was served basically cold.My daughter got a burger which was basically served raw and when we sent it back they clearly throw it back on the grill...burnt the outside and returned it was overcooked. Both my husband and I had upset stomach’s after eating there and went home to spend quite a bit of time in the bathroom we both had the same meals. When I called and asked to speak to the manager they were too busy to come to the phone and I was told they would call me back it’s a good thing I didn’t hold my breath waiting for them to call back because they never did.. I think because the restaurant is consistently busy because they do have a very good bar business that they just don’t care about customer service. When they first opened we were regular customers there and the food was consistently good and the service was always great ... Our last few visits with consistently seeing a decline in the quality of the food... The one thing I do notice is that the management who probably reads these posts doesn’t seem to bother to reply or be concerned at all about customer service..More

When you make a reservation on the fist day possible at 6 am requesting outdoor dining and when you get to the restaurant all the outdoor dining is taken, then it’s time to take this restaurant off your list. Food is expensive, fair at best...and the hostess was very rude. To many restaurants in the area, so don’t waste a lot of money at Charlie’s did I say the manager was rude as well. My daughter’s 21 birthday dinner was ruined thanks to the manager of Charlie’s.More

We frequented the NJ shore points throughout the summer and this place became one of our faves. The brisket/ sirloin burger melts in our mouths, along with the trolley frites was a dynamic due for lunch away from the beach. After a long day sightseeing...the coast, we tried to return to the area after reserving a table to dine here for dinner as well. The Scandinavian Salmon dish was prepared simply but each bite was succulent. Broiled halibut in a deep bowl with asparagus, cherry tomatoes, risotto all swimming in a deliciously tasty red sauce Throughout all of our visits, we have ordered one salad or another because we love salad with our meal and it’s not always included with their entrees. The salads are substantial for two and include nuts, fruits, cheese and fresh green varietals topped with awesome dressings. The service is impeccable and there is an in house pastry chef. We’ve tried their homemade mango sorbet, Mini donuts and assorted desserts.More

Checked out the hype. Rainy evening, seats by the heater. Appetizers for four people with a filet mignon, tuna steak, and two burgers as the main course. Drinks were two glasses of wine, a bottle of beer, and one margarita. Worth $300? Absolutely not.

We have been going to Charlie’s of Bay Head since the third night it opened back in 2017. We usually go on average once a week and sometimes twice a week during the summer and make special trips down the shore in the winter just...to go to Charlie’s. We have brought many guests for dinner, had celebrations (birthdays, anniversaries, New Year’s Eve and family wedding) there as well as just going for date nights. We spend about $200 to $400 each time we go and have spent thousands of dollars there over the years. We have enjoyed the food and have gotten to know a lot of staff. We have recently stopped going due to a very negative and noncustomer focused interaction I had with General Manager, Cory. Cory left me a very rude and curt voicemail demanding that I call him back “TODAY!” I have since played that voicemail for many people who can’t believe how rude he was. I did call him back and firstly he acted like we didn’t know each other despite us being in there weekly, then he goes on to scold me for making too many reservations. He told me that Charlie’s is a restaurant for special occasions and my making so many reservations takes reservations away from people who are celebrating special occasions. I make reservations on the Resy app just like everyone else and that anyone celebrating a special occasion has the same opportunity to do this as well. I told him we enjoy going which is why we go so often and if we aren’t able to go I always cancel in advance of our reservations so that others can grab that reservation. He agreed with me but then told me I need to stop making so many reservations. I reminded him that we are there on a regular basis and spend a lot of money there. Cory didn’t seem to care about that or value our patronage. After that call I canceled any future reservations we had and we have not been back since. Cory’s manager and the Charlie’s owners should really consider Cory’s customer service skills as if this is how he treats loyal and regular customers Charlie’s will find its customer base shrink in the future. Cory should be thanking loyal customers instead of rudely telling them they are not valued. It will be a while, if ever, before we will be returning to Charlie’s. In the meantime we have been exploring other local restaurants and spending the money we used to spend at Charlie’s at these other places. I highly recommend La Mondina where the food and customer service is outstanding!More

This was our first time here and it was chosen to celebrate our good friend’s birthday. We couldn’t have picked a more beautiful place, overlooking the water. It was a beautiful day as we watched the sunset from this very bright and cheerful room. The...tables were spread out and the noise level was low. They have a liquor license and it’s handicapped accessible because there are no steps. Parking is available in a lot across the street or on the street. We were a group of 8. Our service was excellent and the food and drinks were lovely. The menu was diverse and there was something for everyone. I enjoyed my French martini. I shared the tuna tataki appetizer. I had the snapper special. My husband had the ribeye. We all had cappuccino or coffee and shared donut holes with various sauces- raspberry, caramel and chocolate - So yummy to satisfy that sweet tooth. It was a delightful evening and I wouldn’t hesitate to returnMore

This evening I called to see if they had any last minute availability. I was told high top tables were first come first serve and if I could come right away we could be seated. I live less than 5 minutes away ..we arrived a...few minutes later and there were 3 high tops open . The hostess said let me take a walk and see if there’s an open table if not we could take the high top . 10 minutes of waiting she comes back and says that’s she sorry there were no regular tables . I say ok we will take a high top . Nope sorry while we were waiting the owner called to say he was on his way in and he needed the high tops for himself . We could come back in 2 hours and perhaps she would seat us . Seriously lady , you just told me to come right away , and then you make us wait only to say eff you .. tell your owner he needs work on customer service. We used yo eat at Charlie’s frequently but as service fell off and food quality went down , we stopped coming. After a year , we decided to give them another chance. They blew it.. we are off to Moonstruck in Asbury where the food and services is always spot on.Charlie’s you stinkMore

Sat at the bar as we arrived mid afternoon while their dining room is closed before dinner. We got lucky and had great corner seats so we could actually talk easily among the 4 of us. The bartender, Kelly, was terrific. Her drinks were perfect,...making a martini for me not on their menu. She was very attentive and professional. We ordered the fish tacos and deviled eggs with crab meat. Very delicious. I typically don’t like eating at the bar but I wouldn’t hesitate again. We have eaten there as well and enjoyed the dining area/view/ambiance. This was our first time back in a while and we hope to get back sooner our next time.More

We had dinner this evening at Charlies of Bay Head. It was the first time for my wife and me and the 3rd time for our friends. Both the food and atmosphere were great but what made the evening perfect was our server Tara. She...is simply one of the best servers we have ever encountered anywhere. She was friendly, personable and professional. Her recommendations were all spot on and the after drink special did in fact "change our lives!" We started with the crab deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes and the tuna tar tare. For entree's we had the swordfish special and the flounder franchise. Both were excellent. One member of our group who doesn't usually order pasta ordered the crab Spaccatelli. She said it easily the best pasta she had ever ordered. Tara suggested the skillet brownie for dessert and it was sinful. The evening was perfect. Thank you Tara - you are a gem!More
