Elkins High School has a lot of diversity regarding the student body. This diverse range of students is heavily involved in the school's variety of programs, like art, music, and STEM. Aside from a few bad apples, it is often taught by a group of passionate teachers who are always available to foster this curiosity. On the other hand, however, the administration remains the worst aspect of the school. These individuals feed off of the wage that teachers should have while doing no work to improve the school whatsoever. They look past complaints from students, focus on menial details like dress code, and impose their authority on students. In addition to this, front office staff typically lack etiquette, while the school nurses are not certified to take care of medical emergencies. In the future, I would hope to see a change in teacher's wages, more intensive background checks on faculty and staff, and further efforts to improve safety due to threats from gun violence.
My experience at Elkins has been reasonably good. The school is academically challenging and has resources available to its students, which benefit our learning experiences. Some excellent teachers have gotten me involved in the school's clubs and helped me grow as a student. The best part of my high school experience was the friends and family I made at the school who pushed me to be outside of my comfort zone. I am a better student and a better person because of my school's diversity, which helped me see other cultures and learn to appreciate the differences that make us stronger. My worst experience is learning that sometimes you have to let go of the past because it doesn't matter, and sometimes that means letting people go, which will be better in the end but always hurts at the moment. I am really grateful for everything these past four years have taught me I am a lot different as senior me then as freshmen me.
My overall experience with Lawrence E Elkins High School is pretty good. The school is very diverse. It's a competitive environment, and the quality of education largely depends on the teachers. While some teachers lack sufficient support and effective teaching methods, the majority are excellent and supportive. The school building feels small and crowded given the number of students, but the facilities are generally good. Morning traffic is always a hassle on the nearby roads. However, the school's location in a calm area away from town is a plus.
