Amherst Central High School Reviews
Rating 3.58 out of 5 107 reviews
Amazing school district with lots of resources available those students and families that are NOT the minority. I struggled for 2 yrs trying to connect and get resources for my children with no luck. Ultimately we ended up moving to another Amherst school district where my children are thriving. Amherst Central high school does not have the resources or the ability to support its minority students. From the problems, they faced as individuals to the problems they face has minority students the staff could not relate, and was not able or willing to find ways to support them. Ultimately the district seemed more concerned with enforcing suspensions and disciplinary actions as opposed to figuring out what the issues were and how they could support the students so that they felt they mattered too. School administrators made bad jokes about hairstyles to over sharing personal student information with other students…. It was a bad experience. Definitely didn’t promote a sense of belonging.
Many students see this review and immediatley think of ways to rip on their school. Sure, there's plenty of small annoyances that I could complain about. The sweaty climb up 4 flights of stairs going from the gym to Calculus is always a struggle. Sometimes that the school lunch is a brown banana, hard waffles, and a cup of water, (When we run out of milk) but every student complains about the school lunch. However, that's not an accurate representation of Amherst.
If there is one thing I need to highlight about Amherst High School, it's the Music/Arts programs. The chorale director, Mr. Pomietlarz, is an incredible teacher, recently winning the ECMEA Excellence in Music education award. Every year, ACHS puts on an opperetta, and they put so much work in it. This year, they performed Les Miserables, and it was the best High School production I've ever seen. It's been a pleasure to be a part of our music program at ACHS, and I know they'll continue their excellence after I graduate.

Amherst Central High School is truly exceptional. The teachers here are amazing. They're not only knowledgeable but also passionate about teaching. They go the extra mile to connect with us as students and create a supportive learning environment. Sports play a significant role in our school community. The support and enthusiasm during games and competitions are incredible. Being part of a sports team has not only kept me physically active but also taught me important life skills like teamwork and perseverance. Our coaches and teammates create a supportive and inspiring environment that encourages personal growth. One of the things I love about Amherst Central High School is the variety of events throughout the year. From captivating drama productions to exciting homecoming celebrations and unforgettable prom nights, there's always something to look forward to it. Amherst Central High School has exceeded my expectations. The passionate teachers and technology integration make it great
