Man it would've been great to have at least one exclusive title at launch.
Why i went PS5 for this gen launch, I plan to get one at Halo. WOuld be really cool to see one designed like a UNSC ammo crate

If pure power was my goal id play on PC, im looking forward to playing Demon Souls and Spiderman and Death Stranding the best they can look, while still giving me physical games. Also Hitman 3 in VR. I also prefer ps5 cases to xbox ones in general but I do dislike the white header. Black would've been far better imo.
Pretty sure demon's souls, death stranding, and hitman 3 in VR are coming to PC.
Anyway, good for you I'm glad those few games are satisfying enough.
I'm a big fan of playing games, lots of them, in glorious resolutions and framerates so of course I play on PC and Xbox.
I'm sure Demon's Souls isn't coming to PC, it was a PS3 exclusive, the Shadows of the Colossus remake was a PS4 exclusive and it stayed that way
I'm a big fan of playing games, lots of them.
Precisely why I sold my Xbox One in 2016 and never looked back after 15 years with Xbox.
Same exact boat. My one x can hold a bit longer
You like Demon Souls that much?
Demon's souls is fuckin good
I do. Can’t wait for that first “you died“ screen
See I am the opposite, I think the future is bright for Microsoft while I couldn’t care less about a £55 DLC and Demons souls but that’s just me, keeping my PS4 for the meanwhile
For someone who has played every Soulsborne game + Sekiro, I'm super disappointed I didn't get a PS5 for launch--but I did get a Series X. Demon's Souls for me is completely worth the PS5 at launch. I already know I'll play Spiderman as well and then the new Horizon when it comes out so those are just icing on the cake.
I have an abundance of off time at work though so I may try to campout Thursday to snag a PS5 if there are any leftovers.
Spiderman MM, plus improved current games. And Hitman 3 in VR. I, personally can't wait to hold someone's head in the toilet till the bubbles stop in VR.
I’ll play that Spider-Man dlc when it reaches $20 on PS4. VR technology isn’t at a point I want it to be at personally.
Not OP, Miles Morales is what I'm personally most excited about, it's not a full blown Spider-Man 2 but it seems very good too from what they've been showing
[removed]
There's 5 if you include Godfall and Bugsnax.
[removed]
If you count Halo Infinite it's 5 for Playstation.
Godfall is exclusive to PS5 & PC.
Also its nice that Sackboy&Miles Morales will be PS5 optimized at launch, but i wouldn’t call those next gen exclusives.
Oh remake of demon souls that could easily run on a PS4. God I hate the media and influence it has. If PS5 had more power in a smaller box it would get so much praise for that. Add in gamepass and the value for any non rich person is WAY better on Xbox.
As opposed to a bunch of games that could "easily run" on the Xbox One X? What are you even arguing?
I’m saying they both don’t have shit at launch that is “next gen” and wouldn’t run on the previous hardware jackass.
Demon Souls still is a graphical showcase, jackass.
That game would never run on a PS4, Demon's Souls 3 runs at 30 FPS with worse graphics
As a Ps user, the only thing going for Xbox is Forza. Halo will most likely flop, and a service like game pass doesn’t interest me because I’d rather buy 2 high quality games I like that I can own forever rather than 10 meh games which I can only play for a month, and some old Xbox 360 games that lose their nostalgia after like 2 hours. If Xbox can pull their shit together and make games as good as Forza in other genres, then I’ll probably switch.
If Sony were making Halo, you and I both know it would be at least a 9/10 because they would actually get the job done, and I’m not even a Sony fanboy.
You are seriously under selling Game Pass. As someone who did PS Now for about a year, the quality of games is way better on Ultimate Game Pass and will only get stronger when first party titles start getting released. There are going to be a lot of tears when Bethesda is Xbox only and day one available on Game Pass
There’s no need to be so salty, what are some of your favourite games you played on game pass so far?
As a PS user GamePass looks great, I would love to see it on the PS5 but Sony would never let that happen, I believe Tekken 7 is in there and if you haven't played it yet I highly recommend you to, it's great fun playing it with friends and they're going to launch a patch to improve online play
Exactly. The system definitely has potential....but it will most likely be around 2022-2024 when it really starts to show.
The lack of immediate exclusives are going to cause a painful weight IMO.
Yeah that's why I'm struggling to get hyped.
There are at least these only available on Xbox this year: Tetris Effect Connected Yakuza: Like a Dragon (timed release exclusive, like Godfall on PS5)
Not interested in any of those but gears 5 is looking great definitely picking that up.
That's a different discussion.
Gears 5 is fun and looks pretty, and I even enjoyed the story. The new cast is fleshed out a bit more than just throwing one-liners like in Gears 4
I sold my Xbox one x before gears 5 came out so I missed out on it but I'm looking forward to playing it on XSX. Really bummed Halo Infinite got delayed but hopefully it's not too long.
Seems in line with all tje rest. Great machine, great potential, hope you like backwards compatibility cause thats about it.
I am sad about the lack of new games, still, but I do love back compat.
The 360 era in particular is my jam, and I look forward to playing the best possible version of my old games!!
Launch line up is ..
bad. Nice to be future proofed in terms of the console at least!!
:)
Only around 25% of 360 games are backwards compatible as an FYI.
I know. I have been waiting for Fear for literal years. lol
Source?
I am surprised this isn't common knowledge in this subreddit. Below is a list of what is compatible on the Xbox Series consoles.
Console | Xbox | Xbox 360 | Xbox One |
---|---|---|---|
Compatible Titles | 40 | 577 | 2549 |
All Titles | 1001 | 2083 | 2597 |
Percentage | 3.99% | 27.70% | 98.15% |
All the talk here is about backwards combability, yet the PS5 technically has more games in total that are playable via backwards combability.
Source for this list?
Like you said on the ps5 channel: " If You Think the Launch Lineup is "Terrible," You Need to Relax and Have A Little Fun Once in a While"

Well there is a lot of 3rd party games and most people will play those (which will arguably perform better on Xbox). You can still have a blast on either console. No need to panic, 1st party games are coming. Demon souls does look good though, but for me, launch lineup isn't that important. Have fun!
Lmao.
Nope. That would be the Switch.
completely different demographic
Oh I missed the Sony in that comment. Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation are targeting gamers so that doesn’t matter by the way.
The biggest Switch game was a cross gen game. I loved Breath of the Wild but you can plainly tell it wasn't specifically made for the Switch
Unless any of those games are gonna be game of the gen.
That was about the PS5 (thus on the PS5 board), that lineup is fantastic.
Launch is merely a fraction of a consoles lifecycle. It’s credibility or the success of the console is not predicated on such a finite span of time.
Does anyone now still play Ryse? Killzone? Forza 5? Knack? Highly unlikely. Point is they’re mostly irrelevant now.
Xbox is taking their time and the next gen games are coming. With the increased time, the games should be better because of it
That’s not entirely true. The launch shapes the entire generation. Just look at the XB1. It was a horrible launch and Microsoft had to play catch up for the entire generation. The games aren’t what define a console at launch, it’s public perception.
Having “no games” at launch and the launch of XB1 are two entirely different beasts. The lack of an added incentive to buy immediately vs. a complete and utter meltdown of public image. To draw a correlation between the two is outrageous
I mean Xbox trouble wasn’t just launch, all of it began at the reveal
[removed]
Titanfall was a completely new IP at the time though. I would expect a very different result if Titanfall 3 was a launch exclusive for this gen.
Titanfall and Titanfall 2 are both great games but let's be real here, neither game ever got any traction on any platform. It's an unfortunately underperforming series

I think people on this sub and gaming subs in general overestimate how large of a portion of people who play video games keep up w/ gaming news like this. I wouldn't be surprised if over %95 of people who plan on playing Halo Infinite will know that it's made from a different studio that made Halo 1-3. At the end of the day, brand recognition is the biggest selling factor Imo.
Halo was a completely new IP and it made Xbox. Point is anything can happen. And Titanfall was being headed by Vince Zampella. The same Vince Zampella who helped create COD Modern Warfare, the game that made COD a premiere franchise
People forget, but there was a lot of hype for Titanfall before it was released.
Well if your baseline for a new IP is being as successful as Halo, then your gonna fall short virtually every single time. You're right that anything can happen, but that doesn't mean it will happen. Tbh, I think Titanfall would have done much better if MS hadn't completely bungled One's launch like they did, not because the game itself was lacking in any way.
It wasn’t at launch.
Because it was multiplayer only. Titanfall 1 had zero single player.
Are you stupid? THe xbox one had the superior lineup. TF. Ps4 didn't have real game until 2016 with uncharted 4 The xbox had better games up until then. So this whole exclusive bullshit is false, and only a narrative created when the xbox took the power narrative in 2017
The PS4 launched with Killzone and Knack (I know Knack isn't much, but Killzone was pretty popular.)
Then in 2014 it got Infamous: Second Son, Little Big Planet 3.
2015 it got Bloodborne.
So while it didn't have a ton of exclusives until 2016, saying "Uncharted 4 was the PS4's first real game" is a stupid statement.
I agree but at the same time PS has Demon Souls and Spiderman. Both of which will be decent games. The xbox has ZERO exclusives out. I'm not even sure when the exclusives are coming other than Halo at some point in the future. I'm unsure what exclusives will be out in the next 6 months anyway.
They’ll be more than decent, I predict they’ll be great games. If that’s your tipping point, go for it
Already got my Xbox ordered and happy to use it mainly because I like the analogue stick placement for fps games. My friends are all on xbox so it's not practical to switch but god damn I wish xbox had demon souls too lol.
Same thing will be said when Fable is released. “Damn I wish PS had Fable too”. It will just happen at a different time then at launch.
Also your point justifies mine. Controller preference and social group > launch games. It’s an equation that will be different and relative to each person. So launch games ≠ console
There are several more factors that decide adoption rate and a console’s overall success. Xbox is being smarter this time with Game Pass as we all know, but ultimately it comes down to the games people want to play and where their friends are playing. It remains to be seen if the value of game pass can keep up with the exclusives juggernaut that is PlayStation. I think and I hope the sales will be a lot closer this gen - as they’re not in direct competition with each other’s strategies. All 3 of the major players are taking drastically different approaches and it’s great to see.
By the time fable releases in 2023 I'm sure plenty of exclusives will have been out before then lol...
A niche title and a 9 hour dlc you can get on PS4 when the price drops.
If you don't think Demon's Souls is going to sell by the boat load, well I have this shiny new bridge to sell you buddy.
The top games this year will be COD, FIFA, NBA, Valhalla, Spider-Man DLC on two systems. It might do like 1.5 million, but it’s not gonna do huge numbers as a niche title.
probably great games for some, not my type of titles so it literally doesn’t matter.
I have had ps4 since a few months after launch and have yet to finish any of these highly rated exclusives i own TLOU/2, Knack, Bloodborne, Uncharted series, The last guardian, Infamous second son.....the only ps4 exclusive i have finished is Horizon ZD.
To me those games is of no interest the only interesting games they have is horizon and GT coming in 2021 so i went with xbox this gen and also the new price point of nearly 90$(converted) for a new game is not really tempting.
Spider-Man’s is on PS4 demon souls could easily run on your PS4 they chose to make you have to purchase a new system. Would it be better if they held Gears tactics off Xbox one to fake a exclusive like Sony did? I think not.
Demon's souls isn't just some remaster, it was literally rebuilt. They kept the code for the logic but completely remade the engine and assets.
I didn’t say it wasn’t I said it could run on a PS4 and it could.
So what you're saying is why any next gen exclusives right?
If it was significantly gimped, but then what would be the point? We could say the same with any game
While I am a bit bummed that there are limited games coming out I am so excited since I have the day one xbox one and got a 4k TV in february, so I'll finally be able to play my 4k content on it since it's not supported on my current Xbox. Plus haven't played doom yet and getting valhalla so that'll be fun!
Valhalla and doom are the games I’m looking forward to the most. Which are you going to play first?
Most likely doom. I have it on my external drive so I'll transfer that over to the new Xbox so I can play it nearly immediately. I'm guessing Valhalla will take a while to download especially with my internet. So I'm excited I have that option to play faster haha
Valhalla is available to download right now. You could move that to your external as well.
Haha that’s fair enough
Yeah I say that though but honestly I'll probably do all then then just play forza horizon exclusively haha I've been dying to see what it's like in 4k.
There’s too many options, Great problem to have!
Let me start off by saying that I like Ryan, he's one of the better speakers for video at IGN, has great points and has been in the games industry for a long time.
Ok, lets get into it. The Series X got an 8, so lets talk about that 8. What did they review that encompasses the score of 8? If the console review is just about the console itself (no games, no extras), then what else did they want delivered from MS? There is 20% more power than the PS5, several more OS features than the PS5, smaller than PS5, and possibly quieter than PS5... I think it looks great (subjective). It has enough/updated connectivity. If all they are reviewing is the system and nothing else, what more do they want for a possible 9 or 10? Its been widely known that this is excellent value for money for any type of gaming. If this is based upon a system only review, then IGN better be prepared to rate the PS5 at a 7 or even a 6 for offering less as a system overall. IGN won't do that though.
Now, lets shift gears and discuss what the 8 might include. If it includes other things besides just the system, like games at launch, then maybe they rate the PS5 with the same score of 8.
The real problem with this Series X review though is that they left out a killer app and feature that effects anyone watching the review. Those folks may not be in the know like enthusists are and probably don't know about the other cool features of Gamepass and xCloud. Those are MAJOR features that you cannot get with any other console. Leaving those out of a console review is terrible. In my opinion, with these added killer features, it deserves a 9.
you have never even used the console, how would you know it’s deserved rating? Why would anyone take your review over someone who played the system?
Didn't make the claim that I had, I'm just going off of what every other enthusiast has done this year, by using what information I have absorbed. At this point through all the showcases and previews, we really know most of what there is to know about the console. Anything that we don't know, should be covered in a "review". The point is the review is lacking in many areas and struggles about what specifically they are covering/including in the score of the review. Do you feel as though you don't almost know everything there is to know about this system yet? What else is there? Therefore, we can make conclusions now.
Yes we do know everything, which is why no one should be in their panties about a review score.
Are you the reddit discussion police? Seriously, it sounds like you did not understand any of the points that I was making and have nothing to contribute? Otherwise, if you would like to discuss any of my points, please do so. That is what reddit is for, community discussion. Its not a community of shutting people up just because you have a bad day, or life.
Wish they changed the dashboard
Whenever someone oversimplifies by saying the sort of stuff like “more power is good” I roll my eyes.
It’s like slapping the hood of a Dodge Challenger and saying it’s got more horsepower for the money so it’s better.
[removed]
Sure its good, but not when you trade power for 0 exclusives like xbox always does. That being said, ill be enjoying my game pass box.
Teraflops is such an oversimplification and a poor way to express gaming performance. Anyone with mild understanding knows this. You see this mentioned all the time by outlets like Digital Foundry or developers.
I’m only saying it here because McCaffrey makes that oversimplified comment about power. Teraflops aren’t a good indicator and he’s using that here as an argument which isn’t sensible.
[removed]
It will literally not matter at all lol.
[removed]
If you want to tell yourself all of this to make yourself feel better than so be it but you’re oversimplifying a ton and even totally misunderstanding other items.

Don’t think many know about the embargo lift, less than 200k views on the most popular review as of now.
