Architect and designer Pierre Yovanovitch’s recently opened gallery in Chelsea – 555 W. 25th Street, his first exhibition space in the United States – is showcasing the new collection born from his collaboration with Christian Louboutin, world-famous “shoe couturier”. Building on a decades-long friendship and creative partnership, the furniture maker invited Louboutin to create a collection of limited-edition chairs (variations of the Clam Chair designed by Yovanovitch) inspired by female icons: from Queen Nefertari to Madame Pompadour to Dita von Teese. The nine works are a tribute to Louboutin’s Nudes shoe line, which is also joined by Simply Nude in an open edition, five silhouettes presented in a variety of colors and designed to reflect female strength and unique beauty.
Fil rouge, the designer’s emblematic red soles, conceived as supports and authentic “feet” of the seats. “This collection is a tribute to both French savoir-faire and feminine beauty,” said Pierre Yovanovitch. “I am a close friend of Christian’s and it has been a dream to collaborate with him on this project. We share an affinity for the craftsmanship of haute couture. To bring our female protagonists to life, we brought in several classically trained artists/artists. The result is an imaginative ode to women, sung through French craftsmanship.”
