Despite the poor economics of the Airbus A380, it remains one of the favorite aircraft for passengers and aviation enthusiasts. With only a handful of airlines operating this type, passengers are generally keen to find out where their favorite aircraft is flying. Singapore's flag carrier, Singapore Airlines, holds the title of superjumbo's launch customer. The airline received its first Airbus A380 in 2007 and has flown a total of 19 examples of the aircraft.
While the airline only operates 12 A380s, it maintains a considerable route map with the superjumbo aircraft. This article points out various destinations where the airline deployed its A380s in 2023 while highlighting the most prominent routes that are served on the world's largest passenger aircraft.
Singapore Airlines and the A380 route map
Like many A380 operators, Singapore Airlines also parked its fleet of A380s during the pandemic downturn. With its massive passenger capacity, the A380 operations only make sense when there is enough demand on the route. With the aviation recovery and increasing travel demand, the Star Alliance member quickly deployed its parked A380s to key routes in the network.
The airline serviced a total of 12 routes with the A380s this year. It is noteworthy that some routes only saw the mighty aircraft for a specific period, for example, the peak summer travel period between April and October or the festive winter schedule between November and March.
The airline serviced 11 routes from and to Singapore Changi International Airport (SIN), while one was serviced between New York (JFK) and Frankfurt Am Main (FRA) as part of the fifth freedom route. This route is the extension of the SIN-FRA route. The 12 routes serviced with the carriers A380s are listed here:
