Formby beach is one of the best beaches in the U.K close proximity to local rail links, access to shops , there is refreshment at the squirrel reserve . Formby village is a very short walk away for a more substantial lunch or meal

Beautiful sand,
Great location for the dunes and the forests around it, really well looked after paths leading around the place.
Park outside the place on surrounding roads and walk in if you don't have a national trust pass and don't want to pay parking. Definitely bring a roller trolley if you're bringing things as there's a fair bit of walking to get to the beach.
Please take your rubbish with you, it would be good if there was a maintained large industrial sized bin to put rubbish or at least other people's rubbish in there. Something the NT or council should supply, as so much rubbish is left behind and goes into the sand dunes and grassland

It may be a nice beach but we never got to sample it. Be aware that if you aren't a member, that the parking is £8.50. We only wanted to spend a short while there but decided to head for Crosby Beach instead, where the parking was free.

Early arrival on a Tuesday morning and we had this vast beach largely to ourselves. Absolutely beautiful, parked on one of the smaller car parks, NT member so no issues.
Responsible dog walkers around, again no issues. Sand was very clean.
Found a brand new designer walking boot washed up and a mobile phone but best of all, some beautiful shells.
Lovely place, definitely recommended.

Don’t expect to see any red squirrels they have almost all been killed by squirrel pox and have not been seen for several years. Dog poo everywhere and Parking expensive at £8.50!

This beach was recommended by different people and they weren't wrong. #
Spent most of my birthday afternoon on this wide expansive beach with friends.
Although it did get a bit windy, it was overall an enjoyable outing. We took a beach ball and a volleyball and were creative with games.

Leaving a late review as many people saying no red squirrels, but we saw two! So they are definitely there 😊 (it was a quiet Wednesday afternoon in October)
Beautiful beach in the sunshine, there was a coffee van in car park still, and nice walk back through the forest - perfect dog walk combo

The beach is clean with parking nearby available. The view is good and soothing. During school holidays can be quite busy.

Woodland nice, but no red squirrels, locals said not seen any for months, yet National Trust still promoting them as a tourist attraction!, beach like a building site. arrived and tide was high so not really much beach, but what was left was full of bricks, paving slabs etc! Not safe for kids and dogs really. £8.50 to park, but not everyone can or wants to stay all day, should be different prices for length of stay. Also app for parking didnt work, luckily there was a stand where they could take card payment (no cash taken). Toilets ok. Dunes were nice. Wouldnt return sadly.

My favourite beach in the northern UK. Never crowded, nice landscapes. Nice, huge parking. Beach is clean.

Is there anywhere to park your car in the evening where you can see the beach? Want to come and watch the sunset

You can't see the beach from the car parks, but some of the car parks aren't far away. The closest is the NT Car Park at end of Victoria Rd
Are childrens electric quads allowed on UK Beaches so not noise pollution speed settings allow user's to keep maximum speeds to a safe level but hving the fun on sand gives children different feel and location quad in question 48v 1000 watts with 3 speed settings walk jog mad run speed

Please can you recommend places to stay in or near to Formby that are dog friendly but suitable for a person with limited mobility (would need a ground floor bedroom or a lift). Thank you

I went loads of times and we didn’t find the toilet so we parked on the sand down the hill so you go up hill to get to the beach where to find the toilets

There are toilets on the hill with limited time parking spaces by them, however, as the previous answer did state, they are currently closed due to the COVID outbreak (at least they were the last time we visited).

Yes there are toilets at Formby Beach where National Trust Squirrel Sanctuary is. There is a disabled toilet (key operated) along with male and female toilets. Baby changing facilities are in womens toilet and presumably in men's also (?) toilets are usually very busy with queuing - I don't know what system is in place for coronavirus for can imagine there being long waits.
When is the parking free of charge ?
Is it after 5 or 6 pm?

Hi is there any other way onto the beach other than that massive climb up that hill I have a bad back and struggle to climb , but absolutely love Formby beach , if there is can I have a few directions to it please

No and it’s not worth the traffic, 2 hour queues etc as when the sun shines on a hot day car parks are full and parking nearby is a problem and it’s a trek. If you can get on the beach it’s a disgusting mess with all the rubbish, broken glass etc left from people who’ve been there before. And there’s no toilets so you can guess what else is left behind. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful place normally.
