Welcome to Match 12 of IPL 2023. Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians take on MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Refresh for live updates!

And CSK wrap it up by 7 wickets!

It got a little unnecessarily close for comfort, but CSK strolled home eventually, with Gaikwad and Rayudu at the crease. They took full advantage of Ajinkya Rahane's glorious innings, and let's not forget the damage the spinners did, with Jadeja and Santner spinning a web around the Mumbai batting order. It wasn't as convincing a win as we expected it to be, especially after Rahane's whirlwind knock, but well, CSK have bigger headaches -- like how serious is Chahar's injury? Will Stokes and Moeen recover soon? Will Stokes bowl? That's a problem for another day though. CSK will sleep well tonight! Cheers!

Overs 11-15

The CSK batsmen took a walk in the park, hitting the occasional loose ball for a boundary but kept rotating the strike to keep up with the scoring rate. Gaikwad is back leading the run-scorers' board, but doesn't look like his fluent self at the moment. The CSK juggernaut doesn't seem too intent upon capitalising on Net run rate, as long as they're winning.

CSK: 134-3

Overs 7-10

CSK: 97-2

After a flurry of boundaries, and a jawdropping 27 balls, Rahane found long-on to a Piyush Chawla long hop, and walked back for 61. Dube and Gaikwad got together needing only a run-a-ball and kept ticking the scoreboard over with singles and the occasional boundaries.

Powerplay (Overs 1-6)

CSK: 68-1

Devon Conway was knocked over by Behrendorff for a duck early on, but Rahane and Gaikwad stabilised things and played out the danger period with the white new ball, with Rahane uncharacteristically hooking the new ball for six in the third over. His epiphany at the Wankhede continued, as he stroked his way to a 19-ball fifty within the powerplay, with six fours and three sixes.

INNINGS BREAK!

Overs 16-20:

MI: 157-8

And the procession continues. Stubbs departs for 5, and after a bit of a hammering, Deshpande gets rid of David in an 18-run over. With Nos. 9 and 10 at the crease, no surge was expected. However, a few mishits and singles kept the runs ticking over, and the Mumbai Indians ended up setting the Super Kings a target of 158.

Overs 11-15:

MI: 109-6

Despite an attempted recovery from Tim David and Tilak Verma, the scoring rate had been brought to a screeching halt, and the pressure resulted in the wicket of Tilak Verma, who departed for 18, with Jadeja picking up three important wickets to finish his spell by the 13th over. David and Stubbs struggled to get on with the scoring, and only got 3 off the 14th over from Pretorius. Santner, too, finished off his spell to leave MI reeling at 109-6.

Overs 7-10

MI: 84-5

Kishan holed out soon after, hoicking Jadeja to the man at long-on, and now the Mumbai Indians had two new batsmen at the crease. Mumbai Indians were desperate for a SKY special, but he feathered a sweep to Dhoni which wasn't given, but a review reversed the decision and SKY was on his way back for 1. The in-form Cam Green was caught and bowled by Jadeja, who took a blinder off his own bowling! Santner then got rid of Arshad Khan, and Mumbai were left reeling with half their side gone.

Powerplay (Overs 1-6)

MI: 61-1 (6 overs)

Rohit Sharma teed off in the powerplay, along with Ishan Kishan, hammering the new ball all over the Wankhede and it looked like MI were going to run away with it, before Tushar Deshpande got one to nip back in and castle Rohit Sharma. Kishan continued making merry and laced boundaries at will, maintaining a run-rate of over 10 runs an over during the powerplay.

The El Classico -- albeit, a declining one

It's called the El Clasico for a reason -- the two most successful sides in the IPL, but this is a clash between two depleted, ageing sides, who have been uncharacteristically inconsistent of late. Mumbai Indians have lost their first game of the IPL to the Royal Challengers comprehensively, but they're back at their den tonight, against a team they have beaten regularly in the past -- the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings! It's Dhoni at the Wankhede, a day after his World Cup-winning six was memorialized-- every game is a home game for MS Dhoni. But then again, it's Tendulkar city, and it's Sharma city. It will remain loyal. There's some phenomenal cricket on the cards tonight!
