Paul Merson Predicts The Result As Arsenal Take On Everton

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson expects his former club to seal the three points when they face Everton on Sunday.

Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Merson says that the away side will come to the Emirates with the intent of making life hard for the Gunners, but he feels Mikel Arteta’s men will come out on top:

“Everton will turn up and Sean Dyche will want his players to have a go, but I can’t see anything but an Arsenal win.”

Merson predicts a 2-0 scoreline, which could yet be enough to secure the Premier League title if things go their way.

What are Arsenal’s chances of winning the league?

Some bookmakers have given odds as long as 9/1 for the Gunners to finish top of the table, which suggests they are not optimistic that Manchester City will drop points on the final day.

Considering Arteta’s side’s goal difference advantage, they only need their rivals to draw their match against West Ham, but most don’t expect that to happen.

Merson is pessimistic about his former team’s prospects

Like the bookies, the Sky Sports pundit says he doesn’t expect Arsenal to be lifting the Premier League trophy by the end of play this weekend:

“Arsenal have done absolutely nothing wrong this season and have recovered really well after throwing the title away last season, but the sad reality is that they look likely to finish second again.”

All the Gunners can do is do their job and hope that City trip up. It’s never great when you are having to rely on other results and, if the club do finish second for the second season in a row, fans will be lamenting some of the drop points along the way. That home defeat to Aston Villa especially will be a major regret, but you shouldn’t forget that they only took one point from two games against Fulham too.
