Jah Division (mems Oneida, Home) reissuing 'Dub Will Tear Us Apart' (listen to "Isolation Dub")

Jäh Division grew out of a joke between Brad Truax (Home, now Interpol) and Barry London (Dan Melchior’s Broke Revue), when they were roommates in early-’00s Williamsburg. The idea of doing dub reggae versions of Joy Division songs turned into an actual project, soon bringing in Oneida drummer Kid Millions and Brad’s Home bandmate Chris Millstein (later of Psychic Ills), and occasionally other members of Oneida and Animal Collective. They played live, and released a 12″, Dub Will Tear Us Apart, back in 2004 that included spaced-out instrumental takes on “Transmission,” “Heart and Soul,” “Disorder” and “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”

There were only 800 copies of Dub Will Tear Us Apart printed up, but the record is getting an expanded reissue via Ernest Jenning Record Co on January 24, titled Dub Will Tear Us Apart…Again. In addition to the four songs on the original, this new version adds three from the original sessions and two songs from a scrapped album session that will come as a bonus 7″ with the vinyl. We’ve got the premiere of one of those from the original sessions, “Isolation” (from Joy Division’s second album, Closer), which you can listen to — along with the original Jäh Division 12″ — below.

Jäh Division never broke up and have played occasional shows over the years, and are reuniting to play a release show at Brooklyn’s Secret Project Robot on January 26 with Mourning [A] BLKstar (tickets). Poster for that is below.
