Doja Cat has touched down on the red carpet for the 66th Grammy Awards show.
Arriving at Los Angeles’s Crypto.com Arena, the rapper looked ravishing in a totally see-through champagne-colored gown by Dilara Findikoglu. The strapless corseted bodice featured a ruffled trim along the neckline, which sunk daringly low to her bust, while the column skirt featured messy draping details that appeared to be pinned in place beneath a sheer overlay. The piece had a dramatic finish with a floor-grazing train with more ruffled trim, which pooled around the rapper’s cherry-red croc-embossed platform heels by Alexander Wang. She continued to bring the drama with her choice of accessories from Loree Rodkin: layers of cross-shaped pendant necklaces and earrings, an array of glittering chunky rings, and black eyeglasses.
This evening, Doja is up for three awards: Her single “Attention” has been nominated in the categories of Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance, while “Paint the Town Red” earned a nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance.
Both songs come from Doja’s fourth studio album, Scarlet, which dropped in September 2023.
“This new album is more introspective, but I’m not leaning so hard into that to where it becomes boring,” she said of the record during an interview for Harper’s Bazaar’s September 2023 cover story. “So I want to give stories and bops. It’s a nice mixture of both. I think this project is a really fun canvas for me to play with my rap skills and talk about what’s going on in my life. But I’m not abandoning who I was and what I know about pop and singing and that aspect of music.”
This new musical era coincides with a renewed passion for eccentric visuals. Doja continued, “I am taking more control over filming and photography. I’m in this kind of chaotic place right now when it comes to fashion, where I’ve just been going into my closet and picking out the most random, weird, not-fitting thing to mix with another thing that does not really fit. It’s like mashed potatoes. But I’m embracing that. It’s a little punk. It’s experimental for sure.”
