Biography

John Tuchet, 4th Baron Audley, 1st Baron Tuchet (23 April 1371 — 19 December 1408) was was the son of Sir John Tuchet, called "Baron Audley", and his wife Maud, widow of Sir Richard de Willoughby. His paternal grandparents were Sir John Tuchet (1327—1371) and his wife Joan Audley (1331–1393, daughter of James Audley, 2nd Baron Audley and first wife Lady Joan Mortimer).

In 1391, when his childless great-uncle Nicholas Audley, 3rd Lord Audley died, the Audley Barony was abeyant. John was summoned to Parliament as Baron Tuchet in 1403 and received one-third of the share of the barony of Audley.[1] In 1408 the Barony was revived, and John Tuchet became 4th Baron Audley.

He married Elizabeth Stafford, daughter of Sir Humphrey Stafford and Alice Grenville.[2][3]

Children:

  1. James
  2. Margaret
  3. Elizabeth

He died on 19 December 1408.[4] His heir was his son James.[4]

Magna Carta Project

John Tuchet appears in Magna Carta Ancestry in a Richardson-documented trail from Gateway Ancestor John Bevan to Magna Carta Surety Baron Richard de Clare (vol. I, pages 190-192 BEVAN). This trail needs further development by the Magna Carta Project and is outlined in the Magna Carta Trails section of the Gateway's profile.
  • Needs Source Check: It appears the biography is largely from Lewis's database, which draws heavily on Richardson's works. The information needs to be verified and footnotes added/edited as appropriate. ~ Noland-165 20:44, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
  • Needs Development: This profile needs development against the project's checklist to bring it up to current project standards. ~ Thiessen-117 23:49, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Update: I changed his mother from Mortimer-48 to Grey-533

Of the options for his mother among existing WikiTree profiles, I think Maud de Grey more likely than Margaret Mortimer.

Any objection if I change his mother to be Maud Grey?

(See also Mortimer-48 & comments on her profile for background that leads me to say she's not the best choice for his mother.)
