The story of a truly great band in happier times.
Almost marred by the inclusion of the smug twat Bono as a talking head, especially as the talk seems to be that he's Joy Division and New Order's biggest fan and the natural heir to Ian Curtis, but then he warbles 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' and gets the words wrong! Haha. Prick.
Watching this back now fills me with regret (pun not intended) that the original line up may likely never play together again, such is the rift between them. Oh well, I got to see them once and that's a treasured memory.

A documentary that’s as uninterested in narrative as the band is/was in self-promotion, which is no surprise since it’s authored by Paul Morley (whose writing I’ve often enjoyed).
As is clear from the cover, it was made in the slipstream of Republic’s release, an album that prompted me to lose interest in the group as a going concern. (For my money, Technique was their last great album; although, Regret *is* a classic New Order track).
It’s ironic observing an apparently united quartet, knowing this wasn’t exactly the case at the time, and all told, this is a pretty interesting/entertaining film. However, a more comprehensive New Order story deserves to be told – at least, one covering the Factory years.

"This is the apparent story of New Order. It became an unlikely institution whose record company collapsed around them, whose four members needed after all these years to spend time on their own projects. Who appeared to split up, who seemed to love each other, then hate each other, then somewhere in between. They never could make up their minds about anything, really."
This documentary (and the scenes of them reminiscing around the dinner table particularly) really just brings to the fore how much they have been through together, which makes the likely prospect that they may never bury the hatchet even more devastating. What an incredible, heartbreaking, marvelous saga this band has had.

The narrator seriously made this unwatchable. footage of the band was great. Quincy Jones & Peter Saville interviews were highlights. The Bono footage was unnecessary. The narrator really does ruin this film though. It should be retitled New Order: ASMR.

Kurz nach den Aufnahmen zum sechsten Studioalbum Republic machte das neue Plattenlabel der Band New Order, London Records, ordentlich Geld locker, um diesen auf Hochglanz polierten Dokumentar- und Interviewfilm für die vier Musiker aus Manchester auf die Beine zu stellen, der sich aber aufgrund der vielen, fast vollständig angespielten Videoclips, sich auf eine Länge von über zwei Stunden aufbläht.
Mit illusteren Persönlichkeiten wie Neil Tennant von den Pet Shop Boys, den Produzenten Quincy Jones, Arthur Baker und John Robie, sowie Weggefährten aus dem im Jahr zuvor bankrott gegangenen Label Factory, allen voran Tony Wilson, Manager Rob Gretton und Designer Peter Saville reich bevölkert, welche unisono in den Chor der Lobpreisung einstimmen, zeigt NEW ORDER STORY nicht, dass sich die Band…

I've watched just the short version, which includes only the documentary. If I had watched the extended version, with all the videos, I'd probably give more stars.
Trivia: the TV game show we see in the documentary is fictional. It's not archive footage as it seems.

i didn't learn a lot through this that i didn't already know but it was pretty fun and light hearted. was crazy to hear them joke about ian so much.
my favorite thing in this was probably bernard mentioning that ian would bring kraftwerk records to the JD rehearsals
