Overall I enjoyed my first year at St. Mary's University. It was fun and I felt as if I did learn a lot. The only thing that I would really change is the food. The food can be a hit or miss and I wish that they offered better options. With better food, I feel like it would really increase my experience here. Food is really important because a lot of us attending are not from San Antonio and that is our only way to eat. Therefore, I believe that there should be better food options.
It's really frustrating to see that students who do not put effort get the same grade as those who work hard. Takeaway exams allow students to get help from anyone. Hence, it doesn't properly evaluate the students' performance. Some of the required courses are not offered for several semesters which make it difficult to pass on time. There is no female faculty in the engineering department and it is sometimes uncomfortable to talk to male faculty members about certain issues.
My experience at St. Mary's has been quite positive so far. The academic environment is supportive, with dedicated faculty who are always ready to help students succeed. The food offerings have consistently been satisfying, adding to the overall experience. However, I believe there's room for improvement in terms of incentivizing students financially. Introducing a scholarship program for those with a GPA of 3.8 or higher could be a great way to motivate academic excellence while also easing financial burdens. Furthermore, while the academic aspect is strong, enhancing extracurricular activities or student engagement opportunities could enrich the overall experience. By providing more avenues for students to connect, learn, and grow outside of the classroom, St. Mary's could create a more dynamic and fulfilling environment for its students.
I can confidently say that my experience here has been nothing short of exceptional. Here are a few reasons why St. Marys stands out:
Dedicated Faculty: The professors are not only experts in their fields but also genuinely invested in their students' success. They go above and beyond to ensure that each student receives personalized attention and support, both inside and outside the classroom.
Innovative Curriculum: The curriculum is designed to be dynamic and forward-thinking, constantly evolving to meet the demands of today's ever-changing job market. Whether it's through hands-on projects, internships, or research opportunities, students are encouraged to think critically and creatively.
Strong Sense of Community: One of the things that truly sets St. Marys apart is its strong sense of community. Whether you're a student, faculty member, or staff member, you're welcomed into a supportive and inclusive community that feels like family.

Teachers are wonderful but the school should offer more financial helo to students rather than just exchange students or top tier students. Everyone needs help
Overall experience with St. Mary University is that even though were not big like any of the other university like UTSA, I like that our campus is small. Reason being is because not only is the class proportions is just how I like and that its not overly crowded, I like how we can interact with one another here whether its with the students or even the staffs. Also, I love that our school loves to throw events not only for the student that goes here but even for the whole city sometimes.
St. Mary's University blends academic excellence with a vibrant community, offering a transformative experience. With dedicated faculty, diverse opportunities, and a commitment to values-based education, it provides a holistic environment that shapes well-rounded individuals. The historic charm of the campus, combined with modern facilities, creates an inspiring atmosphere for personal and intellectual growth. From a variety of extracurricular activities to a strong focus on community service, St. Mary's instills a sense of responsibility and fosters connections that last a lifetime. It's more than just a university; it's a second home preparing students for success in both their careers and personal lives.
I went to St Mary's as I was recruited to play on the golf team. As an international student especially, I have has a great time studying at St. Mary's. I enjoy the small class sizes and the faculty in the business school are especially good too. I live on campus and have been in some really nice dorms. The catholic ethos really appeals to me too. St Mary's has a great community for being so small, which you can feel in the annual Oyster bake celebration we hold here, as well as in the support open and available in your job search in San Antonio and beyond once you graduate.
My experience at St. Mary's University so far has been great. Professors are willing to help students in assignments as needed which is great and everyone is so welcoming and helpful. I like St. Mary's because it is a small university where professors know their students and can offer help when needed, it also allows for the student to be more attentive in class as there is little to no distractions.
I love the community and how the professors truly care about me. They all want the best for me and I truly have a connection with them. The curriculum itself is helping me grow into a better individual intellectually. Everyone here is so nice and really supportive, it has been a tremendous privilege for me being a first generation. This school is perfect for me and I truly would not have asked for a better university to have me.
I like the environment, faculty, classes, and overall feel of the campus. Their's not much I'd change, I have truly enjoyed my time there and I am excited to go even further in my studies.
It has been a great experience not only have I learned so much from people . I have met some of the nicest people
I enjoy the community and all the help they offer to students. I do slightly wish they offer more financial help because many students do indeed struggle. I love all the professors having high degrees and always offer assistance to those who need it.
I have really enjoyed my first two years at St. Mary's University. It is a small, private, Marianist school. One of the best things about the university is the tight knit community that it has. Everyone on campus is always extremely nice and welcoming. As a student athlete it was amazing to see how all the athletes from different sports come out and support everyone else. One thing I would change is the study abroad availability. As a biology major, when looking into study abroad options I wasn't able to find many.
St.Mary's University is a great school the classes they offer teach you about religion and some even teach you about the history of the school and Texas. During my time at St.Mary's, I have learned a lot they help students succeed and influence students to become the best person they can be. St.Mary's has a lot to offer, I would like to see some changes to their financial aid office. When I started at St.Mary's I was excited to learn and focus on school and join clubs but I couldn't focus on why I went to St.Mary's because of my tuition I applied for scholarships and went to financial aid many times. Time after time they always told me"Just apply for scholarships". I continued and when no scholarship came through I picked up more hours at work and be able to pay for the education I deserve, this made my school work not my best. I have managed to arrange my schedule to fit school better but I do think that St.Mary's should focus on making their financial aid office more efficient.
I have loved the community at St.Mary’s ever since i got there. This school has given me all i could’ve wanted out of a criminology program. I am grateful to be doing something I love at a school I love.
Overall it has been an extremally welcoming community of not only people ,but professors. Having faculty that will build on your strengths and eliminates your weaknesses is really essential to being successful and that exactly what my department has done for me. Although a small school, I believe that's one of it's strengths of being so close knit with students and staff. I have met students and friends here who I will never forget. Although it is a private school which means it is costly, I would like to see more opportunities for financial aid as well as just general renovations of the campus. The campus and many of it's buildings have been around for a long time so some facilities are prone to being broken or inaccessible at times and it would really make the classroom setting better for students.
I find that my department, Education and Sports Science, are a couple of the best at the school. I felt connected with all my teachers, and they all always had time to talk with me and help with anything I needed. I played basketball at the school but the attendance was lacking.
The professors make learning fun and vibrant, and made active connections with the students. Office hours were easily approachable with any professor and helped me when I needed them.
