- Hedia AUnited Kingdom863 contributionsThe Faisal Mosque is the national mosque of Pakistan, located in the capital city, Islamabad. It is the fifth-largest mosque in the world, the largest ...located in the national capital city of Islamabad. Completed in 1986, it was designed by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay, shaped like a desert Bedouin's tent, is an iconic symbol of Islamabad throughout the world. Most of its cost (pegged at about US$120 million today) was a gift from King Faisal of Saudi Arabia.the capacity is 300.000 worshipers , ranked as 6th in the world .
The history of this iconic building dates back to 1966 when the late King Faisal made a historic visit to Pakistan and showed interest in building a mosque in the green city of Islamabad. Nearly three years later, in 1969, an international competition was held to choose the design of the mosque.
Faisal Mosque was conceived as a symbol of friendship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, named in honor of the late King Faisal bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, who supported the project both financially and morally.Written April 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ameeza ZiaIslamabad, Pakistan1 contributionAs a traveler passionate about history and culture, visiting the Pakistan Monument was an absolute highlight of my trip. The monument's striking architecture and symbolic design left me in awe. Not only did it offer breathtaking views of Islamabad, but it also provided profound insights into Pakistan's rich heritage and national identity. Exploring the museum inside further deepened my appreciation for the country's diverse culture and history. Whether you're a history buff or simply seeking a memorable experience, the Pakistan Monument is a must-visit destination.Written May 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John_C_LdnLondon, UK417 contributionsThe view from Daman-e-Koh is lovely on a good day, but the increasing levels of pollution make them almost invisible on many days. It is a lovely spot, now with many stalls selling trinkets and food, as well as a small group of rides for children. There is also an increasing number of wild monkeys - they are fun to see and photograph, but don't feed them or annoy themWritten December 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Megan11 contributionsIt's a wonderful place I visit last year and this place makes me a real fan soon visit again. It is surrounded by flowering trees and has gardens, secluded picnic spots, and a walking path around the lake. It is possible to picnic, fish, and boat in the terraced garden and on the lake. Views of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, the Lake Margalla, and the Murree hills can be enjoyed from the highest point in the garden.Written September 17, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bex76Stockport, UK127 contributionsThis is a great museum, expertly curated with lots of interesting artifacts. There are 2 indoor galleries containing lots of historical items, with explanations in Urdu and English. There are also 2 fascinating old railway carriages which you can go inside. The guide provided background information and an explanation and demo on some of the items in the galleries. It's based on a lovely working railway station which adds to the experience. Highly recommended.Written November 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- khanabid62Islamabad, Pakistan58 contributionsVisit if you intent to have a good view of the capital city. The Islamabad plan in the shape of map was first made on this hill. One side displays presence of national flag with shinning crescent and star hidden in the green environment. The new appearance of the museum and adjacent park is also nice place to visit.Written May 8, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
