Telephone to connect to Orange live Box

Good evening. Got Orange live box fitted for wifi and now want to buy a telephone to connect to live box. Is it best to get one in UK or France and do they have an ethernet connector or do you need an adapter? Thanks in advance and apologies if this has been posted before (this is my first post). We are in Vensac Ocean (near Montallivet)

Probably a good idea to buy one here.  There will be no issues about types of connector.  The cheapest phone you buy in LeClerc will plug straight in.

Cheapest phone, yes, but make sure it is compatible with ADSL.....they are not all.

The box that your Orange Livebox came in will have all the cabling necessary, and the instruction book shows you how to connect the 'phone. Cheap 'phones are not always a good idea - you get what you pay for. They don't seem to last as long as some of the better known makes such as Philips or Panasonic.

Well at my level, a cheap phone that cost me €9.95 in LeClerc 14 years ago is still serving perfectly well.  Of course its not a fashionable colour and has no bells and whistles like yours but it does the job.  And for the last two months it has been working through an Orange deadbox without issue.

Hi

You have been given some very good advice by Anonymous a cheap phone will not need electric as your live box does.  So when EDF goes off (and it does) and your live box doesnot work so no phone,  you can plug your cheap phone into the wall socket and still use  the phone.

Simples

It's not just electricity that cuts, internet connection can be unreliable so having a phone that is independent may be a good back up.

You say you are connecting the phone to the livebox, you have 2 options. A standard French phone and use the T connector that you should have received with your livebox, plug the blue end into the livebox with a phone symbol. Or you can but a USB phone from Orange that plugs into the livebox usb socket.

remember that orange say/suggest  that telelphone line has to be unplugged from livebox during lightning storms

Of course you can have two phones ... one that plugs into your Livebox and is therefore your outgoing line, taking advantage of the cheap/free call deals that you have subscribed to.  And another which plugs directly into the wall (via an ADSL-safe adapter) which is your receiving phone, i.e. anybody who dials your number will ring through on that.  In case of Livebox or power outage, you can always use your second phone to ring out as it's directly connected to the phone line.

i must admit moriarty that's what we do -  and use the inline adsl filter

we just have an ordinary keypad phone /handset for outgoing (only a few euros at l'eclerc) and the wirefree for incoming

the different ringing upsets the dog she hates it

I am somewhat confused about plugging your internet phone into the telephone socket in the event of loss of electricity to the computer. I pay only for the internet connection and I do not pay for a separate telephone land line. Yes, I have a "telephone" line but only for the adsl computer function. My telephone is plugged into my Livebox so if the power fails and I loose my phone, I just have to use my mobile phone until power is restored. Even if I had a phone with a standard French tee connector, my belief is that since I do not pay for a telephone land line, it would not work If I plugged it directly into the telephone wall socket.

I would like comments from anyone who actually understands the situation. I suspect that one posters advice to just buy a cheapo phone which can be used either on the Livebox or directly plugged into the phone socket, may not be generally applicable. But my understanding of my own contract with Orange.fr may be rubbish.

Thanks for all your replies. Went for the Logicom e9.90 and it works a treat. Plugs straight into live box and voila! Cheers everyone. Next job direct debit with orange france to pay for it

Correct and I think the majority will be in the same position as you i.e. not paying for the phone line.

The Livebox will accept any cheap ordinary phone you can buy in the shops as said in the first reply, it absolutely does NOT need to be ADSL compatible, I'm afraid that is uninformed guesswork.
