Classic Batman villain, The Joker, makes his stunning debut in Warner Bros Free-to-play arena fighter Multiversus. Voiced by the incomparable Mark Hamill, Joker joins Harley Quinn in bolstering the game's DC villain roster.

MultiVersus has an eclectic roster of fighters for any mashup brawler. With the full might of Warner Bros IP backing it, players could pit the likes of Steven Universe against Batman in a no-holds-barred fight set against a Rick and Morty stage. Now, a recent trailer on MultiVersus' YouTube channel reveals that the game is boosting its DC roster with the addition of The Joker, who is finally joining his one love and established fighter, Harley Quinn.

Super Smash Bros. is unique among fighting games, inspiring the development of games like Brawlhalla and MultiVersus.

In a trailer dropped on the MultiVersus official YouTube channel, The Joker makes a grand entrance, hacking the Batcomputer and introducing himself with his classic laugh. The title “Send in the Clowns”, a nod to the Stephen Sondheim ballad, is a fitting tribute as The Joker appears in various incarnations, such as “The Dark Prince Charming” and the ever-creepy “The Man Who Laughs” skin, evoking nostalgia for his classic portrayals.

The first look gameplay trailer showed off the Clown Prince of Crime’s move set, which included equipment such as a weaponized pogo stick, spring-loaded boxing gloves, a rocket launcher, and, at one point, blasting Jake from Adventure Time with his iconic Bang! flag pistol. The Joker is a mage class, a vocation that uses traps and tricks to cause chaos on the battlefield, joining other mage troublemakers such as Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry. The Joker is set to join the fray on May 28, which will be the official release of the base MultiVersus game as it moves out of its early access phase.

The Joker has made many iconic appearances over the years, and some of the Clown Prince of Crime's cartoon appearances stand high above the rest.

Mark Hamill's Bittersweet Return

Moreover, Mark Hamill will return to provide his voice to breathe life into the Multiversus incarnation, which is particularly significant due to his stance on voicing the character after the passing of Batman’s voice actor, Kevin Conroy. In an interview last year, Hamill indicated he did not plan on voicing the character if Conroy was not involved. Given their storied history of working on some of the most impactful Batman media, such as the Batman: Arkham series of games and Batman: The Animated Series. Hamill explained, "They would call and say, 'They want you to do the Joker,' and my only question was, 'Is Kevin Batman?' If they said yes, I would say, 'I'm in.' We were like partners. We were like Laurel and Hardy. Without Kevin there, there doesn't seem to be a Batman for me." Luckily, Kevin Conroy had voiced his lines before he died in 2022, making this, most likely, the last time we will see these voice actors take on the roles of DC’s two most iconic characters.

MultiVersus officially launches on May 28th and is available as a free download for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). It offers full cross-play and cross-progression support.
