Noble and Greenough School (Nobles) is an independent day and 5-day boarding school located in Dedham, Massachusetts. Nobles welcomes day students in grades 7 through 12. We also offer 5-day boarding for students in grades 9-12.
Nobles aims to inspire leadership for the public good through positive mentoring relationships. Students balance challenging academics with exciting afternoon programs and extracurriculars. We emphasize experiential and community engaged learning, or "EXCEL," as we call it. Our tight-knit community fosters humility, humor, collaboration, honesty and respect.

The school has changed over the years and is no longer what it was. There is a relatively new head master who is trying to put her mark on things at the detriment to the school. She hired a new head of upper school and the two of them know everything, just ask them. They are taking things away which made Nobles, Nobles and the school is becoming another cookie cutter school. Morning assembly where students “come out” or announce their pronouns” is now more important than actual classes. Students can miss class, but if they miss three assemblies they get a detention and can’t participate is school activities. With this change comes the loss of student creativity and even worse, lower admissions into colleges. Many students are waitlisted at average colleges because Nobles is no longer kept in high regard by colleges as student academics takes a back seat. It is too bad how the school has changed over the years to the point I would no longer recommend Nobles.
My kids have grown tremendously from relationships and opportunities at Nobles (junior and a grad). In middle school, they learned self-advocacy, organization, and a culture of kindness. The web of support from adults is genuine and students feel connected to them. It carries over to engaging classes, access to teachers, and many clubs and organizations. While athletics are excellent, my non-sporty kids' experiences in the arts were also rich and varied. They formed deep friendships that bridged social groups of all interests. Athletes come to plays/concerts, and arts kids go to games. During the college process, support extends to parents, too. Counselors' guidance kept my kids' college processes and family dynamics positive. Talking with administration, faculty and staff, and students themselves, Nobles seems committed to honest self-examination and progress with community input. No school's perfect, but most seem truly happy to be there and maintain longlasting connections.
Nobles has been wonderful for my daughter who is now in 10th grade. Academically rigorous, wonderful teachers and supportive community. She is involved in a lot of theater, which is very well done. Full scale theater, stage, tech shop and costuming courses. Excellent facilities, beautiful campus and a large breath of opportunities. Ceramics, painting, photography, and many more electives built into the school day, as well as honors math, science and languages available starting in 9th grade. Excel program offering trips to locations such as France, Japan, Rawanda, India and more, including community service and skill building opportunities. Top level sports and facilities. Buses available from many area towns, which we use. Overall our family has been very happy with Nobles and enjoying being part of the community.
