Erasure’s singer Andy Bell turns 60 today
Andrew Ivan Bell was born on April 25, 1964, in Peterborough, England. He formed the Electronic Pop group Erasure with former Depeche Mode and Yazoo member Vince Clarke in 1985 and they scored their first hit shortly after with “Sometimes”. Throughout the rest of the decade, Erasure released several Pop hits including “Oh L’amour”, “Victim of Love”, “The Circus”, “Ship of Fools”, “A Little Respect”, “Stop!” and “Blue Savannah”. Their success continued through the 1990’s with songs such as “I Love To Hate You”, “Chorus” and their covers of ABBA songs released on the 4 track EP “Abba-Esque”, a tribute to the Swedish band. Andy Bell released his first solo album in 2005, “Electric Blue” and has since worked both on Erasure and his solo career successfully. Andy Bell came out as a gay man since the beginning of his career back in the 1980’s. His longtime partner died in 2012 and in January 2013, Bell married partner Stephen Moss. In 2004, Bell publicly announced that he has been HIV-positive since 1998 and has been donating time and made recordings for charities that raise funds for AIDS and HIV research among others. He turns 60 today.
