For more than four decades, the celebrated visionary has directed, produced, and written a number of laugh-out-loud movies—like Father of the Bride, The Parent Trap, and Something's Gotta Give—that continue to be beloved. Even the well-designed kitchens in her films are an internet obsession, and most recently, the fashion has inspired a now-viral TikTok trend called "Coastal Grandmother."
While Meyers previously revealed in 2020 that she's "probably not" going to make any new movies, she has seemingly changed her mind since. In April, it was announced that the rom-com legend struck a deal with Netflix and has a new feature film in the works. It doesn't get more classic rom-com than this 2003 flick. When aging playboy Harry Sanborn (played by Jack Nicholson) spends the weekend at his young girlfriend's family beach house in the Hamptons, he finds himself falling in love with her mother, Erica Barry (played by Diane Keaton).
It's Complicated
Meryl Streep stars in this aptly titled 2009 movie about a bakery owner and single mother of three who rekindles her romance with her now-married-again ex-husband (played by Alex Baldwin) but also finds herself drawn to another man—an architect (played by Steve Martin)—at the same time. In other words, it's complicated.
The Parent Trap
In this 1998 remake of the 1961 film, two long-lost identical twins (both played by a young Lindsay Lohan) meet at summer camp and agree to switch places in order to reconcile their divorced parents (played by Dennis Quaid and the late Natasha Richardson).
What Women Want
This 2000 flick directed by Meyers tells the story of a cocky, chauvinistic advertising executive (played by Mel Gibson) who magically hears what women are thinking, a skill which he attempts to use to his advantage to bring his female boss (played by Helen Hunt) down. But as uses his new powers to outwit her, he begins falling in love with her.
The Holiday
In this 2006 rom-com, two lovelorn ladies—California-based Amanda Woods and England-based Iris Simpkins—agree to swap homes, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love.
Private Benjamin
While this 1980 film isn't a rom-com, it's still considered one of Meyers's finest works. Private Benjamin follows a spoiled young woman (played by Goldie Hawn) who joins the army after her husband unexpectedly dies on their wedding night and finds herself in a more difficult situation than she ever expected.
Home Again
In 2017's Home Again—which was produced by Meyers and written and directed by her daughter, Hallie Meyers-Shyer—focuses in on a newly single mom (played by Reese Witherspoon) in Los Angeles who allows three young aspiring filmmakers to live with her. Things begin to get messy, though, when she develops a budding romance with one of the men and her estranged husband wants her back.
Baby Boom
In this hilarious 1987 rom-com, NYC-based businesswoman J.C. Wiatt's life turns upside down when she suddenly inherits a baby from a late relative, and as a result, loses her boyfriend and job.
Father of the Bride
Steve Martin plays an over-protective dad trying to cope with his young daughter getting married in this hysterical 1991 remake of Father of the Bride.
Father of the Bride II
The 1995 sequel is just as funny: just when Steve Martin's character is getting over his daughter's marriage, he learns she and his wife are pregnant at the same time.
