Lt. Col. Donald R. Marcus, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on May 4, 2022, at the age of 87. He was a native of Birmingham, Alabama, born on March 4, 1935, to his loving parents, the late Kathrine Lucile Keith, and Aubrey Renfroe Marcus. Donald is the beloved husband of 67 years to Martha Forbus Marcus; adored father of Donna Marcus Jones and Beverly Marcus Jones (Randal J. Jones); proud grandfather of Theresa Marie Jones, Tonya Jones Williams, Tina Jones Ritchie (Shane Ritchie), and Jaquelin Jenae Talbert; great-grandfather of Jamie Heston, B.J. Heston, Eric Zanco II, Zoey Goodeaux, Payton Keyes, Brandon Ritchie, Michael Ritchie, Kaitlyn Ritchie, and Abigail Ritchie; caring brother of the late Charles Ronald Marcus; uncle of Villeta Linton, Kelly Marcus, and David Marcus; cousin of Jeanne Salvago (daughters, Jessica and Johnica); and brother-in-law of Terry Marcus Long. Donald earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Florida Institute of Technology. He retired from the United States Air Force, where he received many recognitions for his service including the Bronze Star, AF Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and Republic of the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Donald taught courses at both Phillips Jr. College and Louisiana Technical College. He enjoyed fishing and golf in his spare time but treasured nothing more than the time he spent with family and friends. Donald will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, May 9, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. A funeral service will begin in the chapel at 12:30 p.m. Donald will be laid to rest in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors at 1:30 p.m. Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com.
