Viscount Ipswich. He was the son of Alfred William Maitland FitzRoy, 8th Duke of Grafton and Margaret Rose Smith. He married Auriol Margaretta Brougham, daughter of Major James Brougham and Elizabeth Montagu Shawe, on 27 September 1913. He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 4th Battalion, Coldstream Guards. He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded. He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Air Force. He was killed in a plane crash aged 33 years.
