Biography

  • Anton Zaslavski was born on the 2nd of September 1989, and after taking the stage name Zedd in 2010, he has become one of the most in demand EDM producers, Dj’s and remixers in the world.

So it turns out we still have something to thank MySpace for after the first decade of the new millennium. Since without it, it’s quite likely that we wouldn’t have one of the EDM scene’s brightest hopes for the future in a very long time.

After being inspired to create electronic music by the French electro godheads Justice, Zedd set about making a name for himself and in 2011, decided to try messaging dubstep wunderkind Skrillex with one fateful message.

He said: “Hey, 99.9% of the EDM scene sucks, you’re the last bit that does not, you’re awesome and you’ll like my music.” Before the Kaiserslautern born native knew what was happening, he was put through to Skrillex’s booking agent, and was on tour with him shortly after.

Since then, everyone from Ellie Goulding, to Foxes, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga have worked with Zedd. His album “Clarity” was released in 2012 to great acclaim and strong sales but his collaboration with Paramore’s Hayley Williams was what broke him out as a solo artist in his own right, leading to the world wide smash hit “Stay The Night”.

This is a man that can write record and release all this while still performing up to 150 shows as a DJ in a year, and there is still a very long time before his 30th birthday. This is an artist with the world at his feet and the best is yet to come.

Live reviews

  • Zedd

The venue was down some back alleys with no distinguishing signs or indicators of the venue, let alone parking. Even if you could find it, it was managed horribly. General admissions were all in the VIP line because they had no idea where else to go. Once I asked the security if I was in the right place since I didn't even know if this was the venue, he said it was VIP, and general admissions was a squeeze past a small corridor with no signs or anything, extremely intuitive. After this, over HALF the line followed suit cause apparently they were in a similar situation. Next up in this shitshow is the bouncer for GA. He starts sending HALF the people in line away due to dresscode, whether it be sneakers, tank tops, shorts, hats, you name it. APPARENTLY this guy was going by the VIP dresscode and yet again, I had to question/complain for the problems with this place to be resolved. Even after salvaging this disaster of an operation just by simply opening my mouth a couple times, my shorts STILL didn't make the cut for this back alley warehouse. They were an all back, clean pair of black shorts. I saw a few others turned away for sweatpants regardless of how presentable among other silly reasons. I'm sure Zedd was great, but the damn venue and its management was just absurd. Not even any chances at a refund, once NCG has your money they could give less a shit about you.

TL;DR: DO NOT ATTEND EVENTS AT NEW CITY GAS, not worth the ordeal.

  • Anton Zaslavki is a grammy winning DJ and producer, and is one of the top EDM artists, but is better known as Zedd. Like most EDM stars these days, a lot of his tracks feature other artists, usually vocalists like his grammy winning song “ Clarity” which features Foxes. But what you may not know is that Zedd is also a classically trained pianist making him a multi-talented artist, as opposed to the “EDM DJs only push buttons and are not real artist” reputation. Knowing this information, you get a better realization of where his inspiration comes from when he makes his own tracks. When given the opportunity, like when I was able to see him live, he played the piano for the popular song “Stay The Night,” instead of staying behind the DJ equipment.

The biggest problem that you encounter with such a huge DJ is that when they have their live sets, the artists that they collaborate with may not be there. Case in point: Hayley Williams, the original vocalist for “Stay The Night” was on tour with her own band and could not make this performance. This meant Zedd needing to use another vocalist, or the recorded track. He went with another vocalist, who wasn’t so great.

Regardless of these possibilities, Zedd is an EDM genius, and his shows are super energetic and loads of fun.

  • Anton Zaslavski, the Russian/German DJ better known by his stage persona of Zedd is one of the most esteemed names in EDM through combination of strong discography and stronger live show. In 2014 his music was recognised by the Grammy awards when his collaboration 'Clarity' with British singer Foxes won the Best Dance Recording trophy.

His reputation has grown substantially and his shows are now packed out by fans new and old alike. He's scored a number of hits around the globe and has collaborated with stars such as Hayley Williams and Selena Gomez and although there are no guest appearances during his live sets, the audience still go crazy when these collaborations drop.

Not a hugely animated DJ, Zedd appears fixed on mixing when stood behind his decks yet he evokes a great reaction from the crowd with his expert mixes as he effortlessly blends his own music with huge alt-dance hits from the likes of Bastille and Skrillex. His finale of 'Clarity' keeps his crowd dancing long after the lights have dimmed and he has enjoyed the final cheers.

  • I've been to two Zedd concerts within the last year. Both of them were loud, energetic, and a blast! Each show played great EDM music, but not the same exact songs. This made it fun to go to another one of his concerts, since it was not exactly the same. At the first concert, I made it to the front row which was awesome - the bass was so loud that the floor shook, the lights and lasers added to the whole music experience and of course, the music was great. At the second concert, I was far from the front row but still had the same great experience. Zedd's music isn't the whole "dubstep" genre that people associate with EDM music. He has some catchy songs and not only does he play his own music at the concerts, he plays popular music and remixes them.

  • I cannot say I am a huge fan of Zedd but when a DJ of this level comes to SF you need to go (don't get big names here often). I was very excited to see Zedd live, I had never seen him perform before so I did not know what to even expect.

The set was much much better than I thought it would be. Pulling from a large spectrum of DJs this set is at Ultra quality, which was surprising for me. I thought he would just drop his hits and transition with room bangers, but it was much more than that.

TLDR; just go and see him. If you have seen him once then maybe see him one more time unless he drops some amazing album that year.

  • Zedd selected a great mix of music both past and present. The crowd appeared to be in unison. I got to dance a good bit with some friends although the seats in front limited the space I could celebrate. I just about hit my shin and that was not fun. I would have like to see Madeon perform more of his electric beats like he did at red rocks. His music selection was a drag at the end :( red rocks is the best venue to celebrate. 1st Bank comes at decent 2nd place. Zedd mesmerizes the crowd with his Mario brothers like graphics. Many kids would enter a new 'dimension' under a half bowl of shrooms or a teaspoon of Molly ;)

  • Loved everything about it. Opener NOTD was great to experience and had a great set. We were crazy close on the baloncy and had a great view. The intermission was prefect length and everyone had a refill and was ready when Zedd started. The set, lights effects and music were amazing. I was fortunate it was a small venue, it added to the wonderful experience. Not a bad spot in the place. The crowd and staff were all great and friendly. Not a bad thing could be said about the entire time. I had been wanting to see Zedd for ages and the chance to see him up close on a small venue was a dream come true.

  • Amazing, me and my boyfriend had a wonderful night, our experience was pretty good! Zedd has a great energy and make great music! The lighting and stage was perfect. I will definetly go again to one of his shows. There was just two problems and it wasn't related to the artist, the food and drinks were very expensive and the place didn't allow you to dance very comfortable not because it was too full, it was because the security wouldn't allow you to get out of the chairs. in my opinion in a electronic concert dancing is very important.

  • Zedd is one of the most creative, professional and excellent musicians out there. His creativity is shown in all of his shows. I am in awe of his musical ability and the show in Kobe was no exception. His shows lighting is incredibly well done, his choice of songs and energy is mindblowing. Zedd is one of the most creative minds in electronic music--equal to Hardwell and Afrojack and DJ Snake. I admire his musicianship, blending of orchestrations, and as a music teacher myself, I am in awe of his continued creativity.

  • This was one of the best shows I'd ever been to!! Oddly enough though, Dillon Francis outshined Zedd. He absolutely killed it up there. Zedd has the best light show I've ever seen. Also the surprise guest was Martin Garrix!! Fantasticc!!! Only downside is there was 10-15 mins between each set where there was no music and the lights would go on and kind of kill the vibe. Overall though....amazing time.
