Fox News signs veteran John Roberts to new multi-year contract

Fox News chief White House correspondent John Roberts has signed a new multi-year deal with the network, with the former CBS News and CNN veteran expected to continue covering the president regardless of who wins in November. 

“John is one of the best journalists in all of news. His extensive reporting, featuring decades of experience and exceptional journalism skills at the White House and on the campaign trail during an unprecedented year, have contributed to the network’s unrivaled political coverage at a key moment in time,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement on Tuesday. “We look forward to his continued contributions for many years to come.”

Roberts, who joined Fox News in 2011, called his role covering Washington news stories an honor.

“I am honored to continue reporting the latest news stories emanating out of Washington and look forward to serving our millions of viewers at home and across the country at this critical juncture,” the 63-year-old said.

Roberts has covered every presidential election since 1996, the network noted.

He made headlines earlier this month after going off on his Twitter followers for “hammering” him over asking White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany for a “definitive and declarative statement” that President Trump denounces white supremacy and groups that espouse it.

“Why didn’t he say, ‘I don’t know who they are. Can you give me more information about them?’ And then make a decision about it? So this all remains puzzling,” Roberts told Fox’s Melissa Francis on Oct. 1.

“And for all of you on Twitter who are hammering me for asking that question, I don’t care,” he said. “Because it’s a question that needs to be asked, and clearly the president’s Republican colleagues a mile away from here are looking for an answer for it too. So stop deflecting. Stop blaming the media. I’m tired of it.”

Roberts was once co-host of CNN’s “American Morning” from 2007 to 2010, and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award during his final year on the program.
