Writer Alan Conway has finished his latest mystery novel, but when he meets an untimely end, it is left to his editor Susan Ryeland to uncover the truth. The characters and puzzling plot in Conway’s novel come to life, and so do an array of modern people who surrounded Conway in real life. Are there any connections between these two worlds?
The critics are charmed and intrigued by Magpie Murders! The Boston Globe hails it as “an entertaining puzzle of a show” and calls it “good, twisty fun.” Paste exclaims that Magpie Murders is in a word “delightful.”

Episode 1: A mystery author turns in the manuscript for his latest book, but the last chapter is missing. His editor makes it her mission to find it.
Episode 2: Everyone he knew had reason to kill Alan Conway. But was his fatal fall actually murder? Does the missing chapter hold the secret?
Episode 3: Angling to sell his firm and retire, Charles leans on Susan to take over as CEO. The detective plot in Alan’s last novel unfolds.
Episode 4: The puzzle pieces of Alan’s death get more jumbled. Meanwhile, the plot of his new book and the lives of his acquaintances start to converge.
Episode 5: Susan’s sister and Andreas have unexpected connections to Alan. Meanwhile, Pünd wraps up his investigation.
Episode 6: Susan cracks her case—not without mishap—then accompanies Pünd as he lays out the solution to Alan’s final book.
