Mayim Bialik and Michael Stone Finalize Divorce

After almost a decade of marriage, Mayim Bialik and Michael Stone have finalized their divorce.

According to documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, the pair – whose separation was announced in November – officially ended their marriage on May 1.

Bialik, 37, first announced news of her divorce on her blog, calling the situation a “terribly sad, painful and incomprehensible [thing] for children. It is not something we have decided lightly.”

In January, the actress told PEOPLE things can only get better after the rough year that also included a horrific car accident.

The following month, Bialik – who has been adamant about wanting split custody for her two young boys – told PEOPLE the most challenging part of the breakup was moving the kids from one home to two.

We consulted with a child specialist,” she says. “There is a book called The Truth About Divorce and it focuses on a progressive child psychology approach. We used those tools. The general notion is it’s appropriate to show children the feelings they might feel in any situation. And it’s actually been going very smoothly. My boys have the best dad in the world that they could ever ask for.”

Bialik, who has been listening to Adele’s 21 to help get her through the sad time, explains: “I would say it’s a tremendously painful and difficult transition and one which I have chosen to be fairly private about. It’s all the things one would imagine. It’s sad, it’s scary, it’s monumental, it’s the biggest shift occurring for our little men. It’s all those things. I’m not super human.”
