The Porches Inn consists of seven renovated Victorian-era buildings that originally provided housing for the area’s mill workers. Located across the street from MASS MoCA, Porches’ guest rooms and public spaces employ a clever synthesis of retro and contemporary designs. The inn’s 47 rooms and suites are fully wired, offering free WiFi, BluRay/DVD players and complimentary DVDs. Porches' healthful continental breakfast is included in the room rate and may be eaten in the Breakfast Room, on the porch (weather permitting) or delivered to your room in the inn's signature metal lunchbox. The inn features a year-round heated outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna, bonfire pit, fitness room and meeting rooms for retreats and special events.

The Porches Inn at MASS MoCA, nestled near the cultural hub of Mass MOCA and downtown, is a hit with many guests for its convenient location. Its rooms, adorned with unique decor and modern bathrooms, offer comfort despite some concerns over cleanliness and space. The staff receives accolades for their warm service, though a few guests recount less satisfying experiences. While the inn's historical charm and artistic ambiance captivate visitors, and amenities like the pool and breakfast are popular, some guests question the value, feeling the cost does not always match the offerings.

You know how, when you see what looks like an old boarding house in an old mill town, you think I wish I could see what that was like in its heyday? The Porches delivers on that and adds much more. The room we stayed in had a balcony that overlooked the garden and pool, and the bathroom was really well appointed with a big shower and separate tub. The interiors of the houses are perfectly appointed, and the staff are friendly and patient. We got the Art Escape package, which included tickets to one museum, and since we had already booked Mass MoCA ourselves, we chose the Clark and it was fantastic. Don’t skip Mass MoCA though - amongst its many other offerings, one of the galleries looks right out to the Porches and even explains its history. I really enjoyed learning about North Adams and imagining what life was like when the mills were running at full steam. Definitely recommend the whole experience.

The first night we stayed in a standard room king bed, and the second night we stayed [unplanned] in a Queen suite and LOVED both equally!! Both nights we enjoyed the look and feel of the rooms (colors, textures, fixtures, decorations, linens), the bathrooms were impressively beautiful (the first a claw foot antique tub and stand-in shower with rain head, and the second a jacuzzi tub in-suite), the staff was friendly and willing to accommodate us in anything we needed, access to parking was close with secured buildings/keys, and we received his and hers waffle textured robes in both our baths that was a fun treat we frolicked in. In the bath, they give you this fancy & fine smelling bath soak. USE IT. We didn’t anticipate enjoying the room as much as we did. The porches will forever stand out when we want a night away. BRAVO. Would def recommend and will def be back!!

The Porches is pricey but generally worth it. Renovated Victorian row houses result in an upscale, charming and well thought out hotel experience unlike any other we've ever experienced.

Two of us enjoyed a two Queen bedroom loft for one night. Two full baths, two good-sized TVs, and plenty of space and comfortable furnishings made the stay very enjoyable and comfortable.

The To-Go breakfast box was underwhelming. With a full kitchen, The Porches could be trying a little harder to create a memorable breakfast, even in this time of Covid, especially given the high lodging price point. Some hotel experiences here, such as a better breakfast and the hot tub, are temporarily discontinued due to Covid.

Hotel is located especially convenient to MassMOCA and downtown North Adams. Plenty of free and convenient parking. The front desk crew was especially pleasant during our entire stay, going the extra step on more than one occasion. Recommended, and likely to return.

The Porches has a cute, historic bed and breakfast feel with a nice pool and hot tub. However, we didn’t think it delivered on the $300+ a night price tag. PROS: It is walkable to MassMOCA, which could easily take up two or three days to explore, and North Adams’s main street with a cute library in a historic mansion and decent dining options. It’s a short drive to Williamstown and the Clark Insititute and its free, outdoor hiking trails and sculpture walks—ground/space. The pool and hot tub are lovely. Sauna was closed during our stay. Breakfast is basic and largely cold (cereal, hard boiled eggs, mini pastries, yogurt, etc.), but the coffee is good. The bathroom is spacious with a claw foot tub and separate rain shower. CONS: Towels and robes both had stains upon arrival. The porch is nice, but didn’t have any views—it looked onto a walking path and parking lot. Some of the porches look directly onto another room’s porch, and are so close that you could literally reach over and touch them. There is no turndown or cleaning service during your stay given the pandemic. FYI: It may not be important to everyone, but for us, we were also were taken aback that none of the staff — front desk, breakfast room attendants, cleaning personnel — wore a single mask during our entire stay. Guests were largely all masked, but staff were not, even with the rise of delta variant. It was disconcerting and reflected a general laissez faire attitude to masking at local establishments (except Pedrin’s Dairy, Grazie where staff masked, and museums where everyone masked). Masking may not be important to everyone, but it was a turnoff for us.

We stayed at The Porches for two nights. We had heard good things about it so we decided to try it in spite of the high price. We were extremely disappointed! The room was small with stains on the ceiling.Only had one window which opened to an alley looking directly at another room. The other "window", in the bathroom, opened into the reception area in the lobby! We asked for bottled water and was told it would cost $3 a bottle. This at $359 a night. The breakfast was a small continental breakfast with cold croissants. The breakfast room is small so in order to "socially distance" we sat on the porch to eat breakfast. Next to the rocking chairs was a bucket of cigarette butts which was unsightly and smelled terrible. The few times we attempted to sit on the porch someone was out there smoking. We were charged a $10 a day amenities fee which we were told was for Wifi and breakfast, both which were listed as complimentary in the info book in our room. This book also said that each room had a hair dryer and ironing board which we needed- it had neither. My husband and I travel a fair amount and $359 per night plus tax and fees is more than we usually pay. When we do pay that much we expect a very nice room, a good breakfast, and a pleasant experience. We had none of these at The Porches. Honestly, this room should have been half the price if not less. Our bill was $845 for two nights! The manager did refund the amenities fee and gave us a small refund- $75.

I stayed at the Porches because of it's location across the street from Mass MoCA and because it was recommended by a friend who had stayed there. It was extremely comfortable and convenient. The staff was gracious and the entire experience was a very pleasant one. The parking was convenient to my room and when I indicated I was having some back problems, the reservation clerk said she might be able to give me room on the ground floor so I would not have to climb stairs. In fact, she was able to do this and I very much appreciated it. I particularly liked having a tub in the bathroom (in addition to a lovely marble tiled shower) as a bubble bath after a day of walking around Mass MoCA was a treat.

I will be back. I very much enjoyed my stay - it is a challenge to find something with character, and amenities of sitting area/ clawfoot tub, and is dog friendly. I cannot see why someone would complain about noises within building as these are older buildings so to be expected. Honestly I noticed the road noise more so - I was a bit surprised that River Street was trafficked so much (It seemed a route for nearby hospital and car wash with vacuums across street) - albeit I spent a lot of time on porch and slept with windows open. And counterpoint is that location allows you to be able to walk to a few restaurants/ coffee/ brewery and obvious MassMoCA. And the pool is very nice and very heated, and there is a fire pit that upon request they will build fire out there for guests. WiFi was good. Stairs in sage building for dogs are a bit steep for older dogs yet carpeted; hopefully they will see about carpet treads for side stairs that are less steep. Generous parking area; and easy access to grass areas and adequate trash cans for dogs.

I wanted to be happy with this stay and overall it was fine, just completely overpriced. The price might be worth it if you can access all the amenities, but otherwise I can't see why this room was over $200. I thought maybe the breakfast would make up for it, but I was shocked to see the breakfast I paid an "amenity fee" for was like hospital food, a cold prepackaged meal. I've had better continental breakfasts at hotels that don't charge such a fee. Staff was weird and unfriendly. The whole operation of the hotel seemed disjointed. On multiple spots-the key card paper holders, in the binder, and on the phone- it says you can fill out a card to have breakfast brought to you in the morning. When I called the front desk to ask about this card to fill out they said they have not been practicing this for over a year and that I would have to come get the breakfast myself. Which is fine, but maybe update the many spots were you still advertise that you do this, when you haven't done this in over a year. Seems very unprofessional. The bed was comfortable but hard to sleep in when you can hear everyone moving around and talking in the morning. Sure this will happen when you stay in an old building, but again takes away from the quality of the experience and is not reflected in the price. Overall, I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone unless they actually start providing the perks they charge you for.

Dear Megan7291, Thank you for your recent stay and the feedback. Every feedback helps us to improve our service. COVID-19 mandates are carefully applied to our practices at The Porches Inn. We use top notch products to make sure that our guests and staff are safe. Breakfast items are carefully selected to provide healthy and high quality options; farm yogurt, bola granola, farm apples, cabot cheddar cheese and hard boiled farm eggs along with Tunnel City Coffee, harney and sons organic teas, small jar of honey, fresh orange juice and cranberry juice. We apologize that the information was misleading in the folder in your room, we will certainly update it to avoid any misunderstanding. It would be greatly appreciated if you could please get in touch with us directly, we would love hear your experience with our staff. We had a Massachusetts resident discount so it was more reasonable, but it’s very pricey for simple rooms. That said, it’s charming, historical, and quirky, the outdoor heated pool and hot tub are lovely on a cold night, everything is very clean, and it’s very convenient. Breakfast is good. TV streaming services are difficult to access.

Porches is a hip, artsy boutique hotel with retro decor. Our rooms were very clean, comfortable and roomy. The bathroom was also clean and large. It has a pretty pool in a nice garden setting, but in desperate need of more shade (only two umbrellas). Breakfast is included—a buffet of bread products (nothing gluten free, sadly), granola, yogurt, minimal fruit, cold hard boiled eggs, juice, and coffee/tea. Nothing fancy, but actively replenished and dirty plates cleared. Service people were friendly and helpful, generally. The rooms need a bigger mini fridge with freezer (not the bar fridge they offer, crammed with typically expensive snacks and drinks). Anyone with need of a fridge for special food or medicine (like my daughter) is out of luck. We had to ask for a top sheet for our beds because they only had a duvet, which was much too warm in August. They charge a $10 a day “Amenities Fee,” which I found unreasonable (apparently for parking, breakfast, and the pool, which are all supposed to be included!)
All in all we enjoyed our two-night stay (two rooms) and the location is great. There are very few choices in the area, so although Porches is pricey it’s less than Tourists and better than Holiday Inn.
