“Wickedly witty ... Crackling sharp ... Fireworks shoot out [of this collection].” —The Boston Globe

“Long-overdue ... Executed with sharpness and panache ... [Nora Ephron] retains an uncanny ability to sound like your best friend, whoever you are ... It's good to know that Ms. Ephron's wry, knowing X-ray vision is one of them." —The New York Times

“Women who find themselves somewhere between the arrival of their first wrinkle and death have to hear only the title to get the message." —Los Angeles Times

“Wry and amusing.... Marvelous." —The Washington Post Book World

A Talented Writer Will Be Missed
I write this nearly half blind due to my new transitions lenses to which I’m still trying to acquaint myself. Having turned the half century mark half a calendar year ago, I can with all confidence say that I get what Nora was saying here. And I can call her Nora because she wrote in such a conversational tone that I felt her whisper read into my ear. You can call her Nora too. She won’t mind.Nora was a gifted writer, a story teller and master linguist. She wrote with eloquence, making you wish you had penned some of the gorgeous passages, those truth bombs cloaked in poetry. And that’s when she gets you. When you least expect it, she goes low. Her sense of humor could make a sailor blush, but that’s what made her such a genius. The chapter entitled “Rapture” was one of my favorites; a pearl in a twist of jewels it was if for the he simple fact that it is an ode to the love of books. But the first chapter. The one about a woman’s neck after she’s (ahem) a certain age? Yeah. That one hit where it hurts.Self deprecating, honest and equally likable, I’d have enjoyed having a slice of cabbage strudel with her. And I don’t like cabbage. But for Nora, I’d make an exception.
