What's the best way to counter hunters, solo, without a shield pack or guard dog?

I'm kind of at a loss.

Arc-12 doesn't have enough range to counter their leaps. Like it takes two hits to kill them, so they leap, you shoot, then they knock you down before you can get another shot.

Sickle kind of works, but not really well enough.

If you aren't using shield or guard dog, then it's pretty clear that you need to rely on teammates to shoot them as they get close to you, but what if you are solo or going off on your own to do a side objective without the team?

Thoughts / experience with this? I mostly play difficulty 7. Orbital rail cannon, 500kg or airstrike, autocannon, and a sentry or another orbital. I'm open to changing my primary, secondary, and grenades to counter the hunters, but not as open to changing my stratagem choices.

You don't.

No, seriously, there's no good way to deal with Hunters, especially a giant pack of them. I've heard you can melee them when they jump at you, causing their attack to miss and staggering them, but I haven't tried it. Breaker annihilates Hunters but it's only got so much ammo. Machine pistol is good for kiting anything when you're in a bad spot, too, but same issue.

Even the personal shield backpack isn't a solution - sometimes their attacks just go right through it.

Incendiary breaker makes quick work of hunters.

Yep. Far and away the best primary for bugs IMO.

When I see a large spawn, I mag dump at the largest group of targets, and try to put at least a couple shots into hunters that are hopping around the edges. The goal is to sweep around and set as much stuff on fire as possible. By the time I reload and look back at where I first shot at, enough time has passed that whatever was burning is just starting to die. Then it’s easier work to pick up what’s left over, or take out medium/large targets with other weapons etc.

The trick is to try to hit everything and then give the fire time to do its magic.

You also have enough ammo to rapidly unload on hunters or other problem targets like Brood Commanders or Stalkers that get too close to you.

You shoot them, with your gun, preferably your gun is eitheer a shotgun or an automatic rifle of shorts.

The punisher family is pretty great

Something with Stagger is probably your best bet. The Slugger used to be ace with this, but maybe try the Punisher or one of the Breakers?

Incendiary Shotgun Def helps counter these bastards, especially if you're solo, you'll not have the DOT bug. The blitzer I've noticed especially since update does ok, but it's hit and miss with the Arc issues. If you notice a pack of them try to stun them with a stun grenade before they start to split and flank.

All else fails, cluster bomb and run

I kill two of them with one scorchermagazin, so if there is just one in sight or near, i kill it an reload. If there are two i kill them and reload then. With that strategy i get close to the hive/s and blow them up.

Stalwart, Incendiary Breaker, Impact Grenades and Redeemer, all combined with situational awareness. A well placed sentry can help too, assuming it doesn’t get charged/stepped on/swarmed.

Try running muscle enhancements as a booster it will help with the stun lock

Slugger headshots work great

Swap to Redeemer if one hops on you and spray

Dive backwards and chuck an Impact

Stalwart makes quick work, but that's a support weapon

Breaker Spray and Pray actually wipes their little hunting packs nicely

Since having access to the eruptor and grenade pistol I've been running stun grenades with the extra grenade armour, and a well timed stun on a group of them gives you a huge amount of breathing room. Possibly time to make some distance and get an explosive off in the centre of them too, but I need to do more testing of the eruptor post-nerf to see if it's still good at clearing groups

Find a narrow passage or a big rock. Lure them through, this will thin them out, then take out 10 with sickle burst. And run, always run
