Robert de Vere, 19th Earl of Oxford

Robert de Vere, 19th Earl of Oxford (23 August 1575-7 August 1632) was an English nobleman who was Earl of Oxford from 1625 to 1632, succeeding Henry and preceding Aubrey.

Biography[]

Robert de Vere was born in 1575, the grandson of John de Vere, 15th Earl of Oxford and the second cousin of Henry de Vere, 18th Earl of Oxford. On his cousin's death in 1625, he succeeded to the Earldom of Oxford, and he married a Dutch noblewoman. Oxford served under his relative Horace Vere, 1st Baron Vere of Tilbury during the Dutch Revolt, only to be killed at the 1632 Capture of Maastricht; his five-year-old son inherited his title.
