Her social media game may be on point, but Kareena Kapoor Khan likes to keep a certain aspect of her life private and preserve it from the public eye and the internet. And while both Kareena, a mother of two, and husband Saif Ali Khan, are okay with their children — Taimur Ali Khan and Jeh —  getting clicked by the paparazzi and posing for the cameras at the airport, she has a side to her that is low-key and private, which helps her stay sane, aiding her to survive in this challenging business of acting.

At ABP Network’s Ideas of India Summit 3.0, Kareena revealed,  “Some things should be preserved, should be kept a little bit for the unknown. So that feeling of okay, do we really know her or most people assume that I am either Geet or Pooh and I made them believe that could be a possibility but there is a side to me that I like to keep a little private.”

As an actor, especially living in the age of internet and social media, where people’s judgements and opinions can have an adverse impact on her happiness and emotional well-being, Kareena credits this ‘little secrecy’ to her mental stability. “I think that somewhere, it (being private) keeps my, like I said mental health, my mental stability because I think if everything is just left for the known and you know, for judgment, I don’t know how we’ll survive as actors (sic),” said the 43-year-old actress.

Kareena and Saif’s sons have  been a constant fixture in the paparazzi’s lens, especially Taimur, who has been under the watchful eyes of the photographers since day one. When asked how did she manage to deal with media’s obsession with Taimur and if it bothered her as a mother, Kareena, shared, “I think the only way I could deal with the media attention on Taimur was to actually be chilled about it because if I were hyper about it — which may be I was inside, or openly expressed what I was feeling, I feel somewhere, it would have affected Taimur.”

Festive offer

“If he (Taimur)  was aware that something was upsetting me or I was affected by too many cameras around him. If I kept stressing over  ‘Kya kar raha hai? Kyun photo le rahe?’ (What is he doing? Why are they taking pictures of Taimur?) or I told the photographer, ‘Photo mat lo!’ (Don’t take pictures)’, it would have left a lasting impact on him,” told Kareena.

The Don actress revealed that it was Saif who suggested that they dealt with the cameras focused on their son with calmness. Saif advised the actors that they simply needed to head down and walk. “We can’t run away from this,” Saif told me. He believes that instead of trying to scare him further, let’s just take it in our stride and just walk with your head down outside the airport or wherever it is. After a certain age, Taimur  will understand — which he does even now — that his parents are famous. He’s quite easy about it,” added Kareena, who will be seen in Crew alongside Tabu and Kriti Sanon.

Saif, in a recent interview to The Film Companion spoke about the audience and people being extremely interested in star kids. “I mean look at The Archies. They are constantly being photographed, constantly being followed. You have to decide what this attention is and where it comes from,” he said, adding “What makes the star kids is the press, the photographers, and the audience who perhaps quite innocently want to just see a star kid.”
