Built in 1836, there are works by the old masters (14th-18th centuries) - Dürer, Rubens, Bruegel, Van Dyck, Titian, Raphael, Rembrandt, etc. We were here on a Sunday at noon, there were a lot of people but the tickets were only 1 euro each. The museum is very interesting and can be seen in about an hour and a half. I recommend it.

On a recent trip to the Bavarian capital, I made it a point to visit Lenbachhaus, a building housing the Städtische Galerie (Municipal Gallery); I had previously visited this museum a number of years ago upon the recommendation of a person employed by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Photographs are permitted in this museum. I found this visit as enjoyable as the first time I experienced this museum.

The Pinakothek der Moderne in the Munich Art District is a museum building opened in 2002. During my many visits to Munich, I never visited this museum; while it is not an art form I particularly like, I thought I ought to make an effort to expand my art appreciation. The museum was just opening when I arrived. The young woman who sold me an admission ticket was friendly and humorous, and she was diplomatic when she suggested that I was eligible for a senior discount. Photography was permitted and I took a number of pictures in the various galleries and exhibit areas. Persons interested in this art form would enjoy visiting the Pinakothek der Moderne.

We were blown away by the extent of the collection here! It had something for everyone, from medieval armour to hundreds of nativity scenes to bronze statues.

The free audio guide was really helpful and added a lot of colour to the exhibits, especially since not all of them had English descriptions (and fair enough!). Some of the rooms were closed for renovation so be aware if you take the highlights tour like we did, you can only start on the third object (the dragon).

The museum was a real hidden gem - worth a visit for a feel of some genuine Bavarian history and culture.

A very interesting collection of artifacts from Greece and Italy. Unfortunately there were no English descriptions, they were all in German. There was a poster at the start of each section with writing in English and German to introduce you to each collection. The front desk person was very nice and helpful. You could rent a headset for four Euros. The museum is close to other museums so if you have time on a Sunday you could see several for 1€. There is a cafe there.

This is an excellent location to complement a city trip to Munich. reat for families with children of all ages.

However I would rather not view it as a museum but rather an "interactive playground" to take great, creative "Instagram style" pictures. Many bavarian style locations (mountains, alpine lake, pop art scenery, lovely mountain hut, etc,) invite you to be creative with your camera.
I really was amazed when I browsed the pictures the next day - I didn't know I could take pictures like this :-)

Great especially for rainy days. Small cafe in the location, U-Bahn connection to Marienplatz, only takes a few minutes to get there.

The Haus der Kunst is fascinating! The history of the building was very compelling and the temporary exhibits were beautifully put together. The architecture of the building alone is worthy of a visit.

Really interesting and impressive interior design of two rooms of the artist home. Some impressive art and bronzes also on display. Very reasonable entry and worth 45 minutes of a tour schedule.

Nice museum and inspiration to tolerance and travel. The Myanmar rooms are beautifully done, the further exhibitions are nice. A bargain on Sunday for 1 Eur.

The Die Neue Sammlung (€10 per adult) is housed in the same building as the Pinakothek der Modern and is recognised as one of the most important design and applied art museums in the world.

Opening hours are 10am to 6pm daily with extended hours on Thursdays evening until 8pm. The museum is closed on Mondays. Entry ticket includes access to both the Pinakothek der Modern and Die Neue Sammlung.

Located in the underground floor, here you find some intensive exhibitions on industrial, graphic and furniture design. There are also impressive jewelery, ceramics as well as artistically created objects on display. We spent around 45 minutes browsing the galleries of the Die Neue Sammlung, finding this to be a very good complement to the traditional Modern Art galleries and exhibition in the upstairs floors of the Pinakothek der Modern.

Note: There is a ground floor cafe with outdoor seating at the museum. This makes for a good rest break in between your visits to Die Neue Sammlung and Pinakothek der Modern. The cafe is open from 10am to 4pm daily with extended hours on Thursday.

Note: Entrance to all Die Pinakotheken museums in Munich are €1 on Sundays. As such, you can save quite a bit on museum fees if you visit 2-3 on the day.

Saw the Saul Leiter exhibition in September 2019. It was a really nicely arranged and very inspiring exhibition with lots of great photographs - for free. The Versicherungskammer belongs to the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, so in a way it's a bank building, but there was no bank communications whatsoever.

The Michael Ende Museum is a small museum dedicated to the life of Michael Ende, who wrote the NeverEnding Story. It is a cute museum with lots of information about the author and items he owned. It is a pity that most of the explanations are in German, would be great if they had English translations.

The museum is hosted in a nice little castle in the outskirts of Munich.
