Laurette was deeply motivated by the world of theatre hence, one summer, in her junior year, she decided to audition as a trainee at Williamstown summer theatre. A year after her training she got into the American Academy of dramatic arts where she was awarded a scholarship.
 
She graduated and went back to Michigan to attend Adrian College in the year 1969. In the year 1972, an agent employed by the universal studios recognized Laurette’s talent which got her to sign a 7-year bond with them.
 
Laurette was then spotted in numerous tv appearances like Emergency!, Adam-12, The Streets of San Francisco etc. She went on to become a star with the Winesburg productions situated in Ohio, which was broadcasted on KCET’s Hollywood TV theatre.
 
As the contract was at the stage of termination McCook had exhausted all her wealth and was close to becoming broke and was rumored to have been evicted from her apartment, that is when the role of Cassiopeia in the Battlestar Galactica came to her as a saving grace. Laurette was then cast as a Medtech in the TV series called Lost planet of the Gods. Magnum P.I, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, The Dukes of Hazard were a few of her other good movie roles. Laurette has also featured in a horror movie called Plot 7 in 2007, even though her role was small, it was very Impactful.
