Hi guyz, I have been wondering if Yuri is a real nasty man or not.

Here's a collection of Quotes about Yuri Sharapov.

"Russian Tennis Star Myskina Doesn’t Want to Be on Same Team as (Sharapova) ..."

"After losing to Sharapova in the semi-finals, Myskina said: “He (Yuri Sharapov)was just yelling and screaming instructions to her and I thought he just ..."

"Yuri is a temperamental soul who blows his top during matches, ..."

"Myskina stands by Fed Cup threat"

"(Yuri) Sharapov has a strange, quickly-changing nervous system. It often leads to stressful situations," Tarpishchev said. ..."

"MOST BORN TO BEAT A DRUM IN THE STANDS: "Yuri Sharapov ... "chill pill"..."

"Yuri Sharapov... at least one Williams sister ..."

"Maria's dad too much trouble for Russian Fed Cup team"

"Yuri Sharapov received a warning from the chair umpire for coaching his daughter during the Myskina match."

"I remember a couple of years ago (Jennifer Capriati) ..."

It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks of Yuri. His daughter is now an adult, very wealthy and one of the top women tennis players in the world. He obviously did something right...which most people won't give him credit for because they hate Maria for the obvious.

I doubt anyone here knows the man well enough to judge him but hes done a great job helping Maria get to where she is. He does get pretty emotional at times but on at least one occasion I would have done the same thing had I been there :p....and from experience and hearing from others he has a fair bit of time for Maria's fans

I agree with you, completely.

I dont know the man but he obviously cares for his daughter very much, took her over to Us with $700 to benefit her now thats a nice thing to do. He took a tough job over there so they could live. He is always by her side, his a good support to her and he is obviously very passionate and Maria thinks the world of him so his obviously a great father to her. If he has made people think bad of him along the road the guy just doesnt care because who are you to him, if his helping Maria thats all he has to care about. And he has earnt my respect and probably many more people. And saying his bad for tennis is very far fetched because how can one mans passions (a man not in any power at all on the WTA tour) out of millions of people out there effect a worldwide oranisation.

I think Yuri is a caring and loving father who is much misunderstood. Part of the problem is that he doesn't give interviews or talk to the press, preferring to stay out of the spotlight and let Maria speak for herself. At least he doesn't spout off nonsense and berate other players and coaches to reporters as some others have done. And he has been very quiet in the stands lately.

I don't think so, I'm not with him, but certainly not against him, that would make me an in-between I think ;)

he did make an appearance in the bbc documentary on maria shown last year around wimbledon (if im not mistaken)...he was interviewed and he came across as a soft spoken (i know lol) sweet man who very much cared for his daughter...nothing like the way he is portrayed in the press or how he comes across when watching maria's matches. he even said some touching things in that documentary regarding maria.

like some have said, i dont think anyone is in the best position to judge him. it's easy though to say that he's probably the one most responsible for maria's success as a tennis player (apart from maria obviously). he has certainly sacrificed much to provide her with a good life in the best way he knew how. you only have to read maria's interviews or listen to what she has to say to understand how she appreciates and loves her dad.

True - I had forgotten about that interview; I hope they show it again this year (or get new material) because it did portray Yuri in a different light.

When he first came on the scene I wanted someone to shoot that fucker. However, after watching that documentary and seeing him be a lot calmer courtside, I'm warming up to him. I think he, like Richard with V&S, has only good intentions at heart. Nothing is more important than his daughter.

This is the best quote because Tarpischev probably wants Sharapova on the Fed Cup team

"(Yuri) Sharapov has a strange, quickly-changing nervous system. It often leads to stressful situations," Tarpishchev said. ..."
