The Matrix Resurrections actor Jessica Henwick reveals that she shot her own short film, Bus Girl, entirely on a series of cameraphones. Henwick’s acting ability has been previously showcased in film and television, with roles in Games of Thrones, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Marvel’s Iron Fist to name a few. More recently, Henwick has signed on for roles in the upcoming films Knives Out 2, The Matrix Resurrections, and The Gray Man.

Now, Henwick reveals to GQ that during the filming of Knives Out 2, she was spending some of her downtime writing, directing, and acting in her own short film, Bus Girl. With six Xiaomi Mi 11 cellphones in hand, Henwick shot Bus Girl during a three-day filming break of the Rian Johnson whodunit, along with a crew of about 50 people. Bus Girl takes place in an upscale London restaurant and showcases the art of cooking, inspired as it was by Henwick’s most recent obsession of trying new recipes.

The short film stars Henwick along with Harry Potter favorite Evanna Lynch and Game of Thrones actor Daniel Portman. Shadow And Bone star Jessie Mei Li was set to star as the short’s lead, but due to scheduling conflicts, Henwick stepped in to take Li’s place. With the amount of technology at a person’s fingertips, it’s no surprise that cellphones are starting to tap into the film industry, and Henwick’s Bus Girl isn’t the first. From the Oscar-winning documentary Searching For Sugar Man to Zack Snyder’s short Snow Steam Iron, which both filmed using iPhones, creators everywhere are proving that almost everyone has the main tool to be a filmmaker right in their pocket.
