Joan Barbara Ziegler was born Jan. 2, 1935 in Stettler, Alta. and passed away in Red Deer, Alta. on Feb. 18, 2024 at the age of 89 years. Joan was the second of 13 children born to Charlie and Marie Ziegler.

Joan was a hard worker and in her younger years did babysitting and housekeeping for some people in the neighbourhood.
In 1972, Joan moved to Red Deer to work at Travelaire manufacturing travel trailers, where she remained for 21 years until 1993 when her dad Charlie passed away. At that time, she moved back to Stettler to be with her mother Marie.

She remained caring for her mom until 2000 when Marie passed away.

Joan then moved into Paragon Place and was a resident there for 18 years until her failing health forced her to have to move into Heritage House in Stettler. She was only there briefly before moving into the Hamlet’s in Red Deer where she remained until her passing.

Joan loved to curl and later to play shuffleboard. She was very good at both and had trophies and ribbons to prove it.

Joan was an active member and spent many hours volunteering at the Stettler Legion Branch #59. We are not sure how many years, but she had membership cards from 1981-2018. She loved the Legion and made many friends there.

Joan will be forever remembered by her loving family; sisters: Marlene Shoemaker, Audrey (Norman) Rice and Carol Stanvick; brothers: Ross (Delores) Ziegler, Marvin (Louise) Ziegler, Terry (Daphne) Ziegler, Brian (Rose) Ziegler and Leonard (Judith) Ziegler; sister-in-law Ann Ziegler; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by parents Charlie and Marie Ziegler; brothers: Don Ziegler, Arnold Ziegler, Gary Ziegler and Dennis Ziegler; brothers-in-law Gordon Shoemaker and Lloyd Stanvick and sister-in-law Linda Ziegler.

A graveside service will be held at the Red Willow Cemetery, Red Willow, Alta. on Tues. April 23, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon and a time to share memories of Joan at the Red Willow Community Hall.

Memorial donations may be made to the Red Willow Cemetery c/o Box 218, Stettler, Alta. T0C 2L0. Condolences may be sent to the family, please visit www.stettlerfuneralhome.com.
