About
Hundreds of thousands of people visit BMW's four-cilinder BMW tower and the bowl-shaped museum next to it each year. The museum showcases the technical development of cars and motorcycles and also has some exhibits about the history of the company. Many old cars and motorcycles are on display along a spiral ramp that curls along the inside of the bowl-shaped building.

- Rashid FAlpharetta, Georgia61 contributionsHistory of the Ultimate Driving MachineGreat collection of automobiles and a informative display of cars and motorbikes documenting the history of BMW. The adjacent BMW Welt is free to access but visiting the museum is highly recommended. Parking is easy and the location is easily accessible from highway or bus.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten June 10, 2023
- Hossein THouston, Texas165 contributionsAn educational and interesting place to visit on a rainy dayWe visited both buildings. There is paid parking available under the BMW building. This is where they keep the new cars, including the newly purchased Rolls-Royce cars. The cars are for show and you cannot sit inside them to get the real feeling. The museum is a short walk from BMW building and requires a fee to enter. They close at 6 PM. There you can see the progression of the development of BMW motorcycles, and cars since early 1900. Depending on how much you are interested in cars, you can spend a good two hours there. There is an audio guide which we did not purchase since we had only one hour before it closes.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 6, 2023
- EvaBothell, Washington748 contributionsCool architected building with smallish exhibits. As a BMW owner and aficionado - had to go to the mothership. Was a little disappointed by the smallish size of exhibits and the gift shop was pretty bare, but seeing the history and evolution of BMW’s motorcycles and cars was neat. We are fans of E30 classic style and even saw a similar build. Did you know that they make proto types out of clay? Very cool to see in person. I tried wiping my drool off the M1 Hommage…think I got it. Oh and CE 04 is hands down the most amazing electric scooter ever manufactured! Definitely on my wishlist…Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 19, 2023
- BalkrishnaShroffMumbai, India23,739 contributionsHeaven for car lovers !!If you are in Munich and if you like cars irrespective of brands, then this is THE place for you. I was alone and luckily I got an hour guided tour ticket for 10 Euro at the last moment. It was very informative tour. I was surprised to know thay protp type cars are made out of clay. They had pleant of cars, bikes and engines on display. One enclosure was specially for Elvis's car when he was in Germany on US military duty from 1958 to 1960. It was a big highlight. Some of small cars were very cute. Unfortunately I could not go for BMW World to see new cars due to shortage of time. Not to be missed...Visited July 2023Written July 20, 2023
- MinnouUnited Kingdom450 contributionsIconicEven if you’re only slightly interested in cars this is an excellent place to visit. Well laid out, signs in German and English and very extensive displays. There is currently a big exhibition/ collection of motorbikes as it’s the centenary of first production.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 22, 2023
- Fred Funk39 contributionsNot bad! It's a very good car museum and show room. We did the trinity of car museums, Porsche, Mercedes (Stuttgart) and BMW (Munich) in 5 days, so comparisons are natural. They are all very good experiences, slickly presented and glossy enough for motor fans and those who are not. The BMW showroom with its interactive area for smaller kids (4-12 yo recommended) was great and I played (49yo) happily with the DJ booth myself. The mix of new in the BMW Welt (plus Rolls Royce and M series) and old in museum was a nice contrast. One main difference is BMW was more technical and displayed more enginesVisited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 30, 2023
- Christopher ChooBeau Bassin - Rose Hill53 contributionsImmersion into the BMW worldI am not a big fan of cars but being in Munich, I was told that the BMW museum was a place to go. I was not disappointed, the trip made me see the evolution of BMW throughout the decades where they ascended and established themselves as being a pioneer in the industry. I would 100% recommend to everyone.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 9, 2023
- Jo LRidgecrest, California132 contributionsVery well doneSo if you want a factory tour you need to set that up AT LEAST 6 wks in advance and NOT offered during holidays. Now to explain what we learned because we were confused until we got here. The Welt is free and basically a showroom. They want you to buy. Having said that, you can treat it like a museum, kept us busy for a good hour. There is a large gift store and cafe. They open at 0730 which is nice to hang around until museum opens at 1000. Parking is on Welt side and a bridge connects over the street outside. It’s Dec so they actually have a gluwein stand inside like the Christmas markets. Now, the museum… if you book an English tour like I did, 6 euro, that includes entrance fee. You don’t need the tour if you like to go slow and read, plenty of English. The tour is not anything extra, so may be redundant. Also has a nice cafe/coffee shop and another gift store. Come and enjoy. Probably 3-4 hr, at least for us. Very nice staff! Oh they do charge for parking.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 22, 2023
- mike hFort Worth, Texas507 contributionsExcellent - Very CrowdedArrived around 10:45 over the holiday and facility was already packed. Very well done museum detailing BMW's history in aviation, cycles and autos. Some wonderful older models on display which were beautiful. Brand and logo history very interesting as well. Well worth it.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 31, 2023
- Danielle SAston, Pennsylvania4 contributionsCalling all car lovers! We really wanted to check out the BMW museum on this trip and we were not disappointed! The bikes, the cars, and the history was incredible. Make sure when you leave the main building, walk across that huge bridge and check out the dealership/factory! I had no idea that was there, we just stumbled into it, and it was even more amazing! Lots of fun stuff to do and check out inside. Make sure you have a few hours for it all!Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 21, 2024

Me and my 2 sons (4 and 9), petrolheads, went on a museum trip in south Germany. Porsche and Mercedes museum both 10 euro admittance (kids free), and both were awesome (spent multiple hours in each) for adults AND kids. BMW museum charged us 17 euros, and was a one hour deception. Just 2 race cars, not a single car where the kids could sit at the wheel, and also the souvenir shop a bit boring and overall more expensive than Porsche and Mercedes.
Bmw racing engines alley and m1/m3/m5/m6 platform were not dissapointing i must say.

A beautiful building, but a VERY WEAK display of cars. I expected to see at least 120-150 classic BMW street and race cars. Less than 50 were on display. Only one lonely 2002 series example? One example of the most iconic sport sedan in automotive history?
Almost no race cars, except for one Sauber F1 car bolted to a wall, and one 60's F1 car.
I've seen much nicer private collections in both Florida and in California.
A fairly decent display of classic BMW motorcycles.
The static displays of sustainable engineering tech were pointless and boring. And the Cold War / Berlin Wall history section was totally out of place in a car museum.
This museum was not worth the €10 admission unless you know absolutely nothing about BMW and are starting from scratch.

The museum sets out the history of the aircraft engine-turned-car manufacturer, which is relatively short and therefore the collection of vintage cars is not as impressive as that of say grand old Mercedes Benz. If you can walk for 2 hours, join the factory tour which shows the concurrent production of 3 models in one production system from stamping, welding, painting to assembly, although you will be nowhere near where the shiny cars roll off the production line ready to be driven away. There’s a lot of walking up and down stairs and can be taxing for some people! Photo taking is not permitted inside the factory.

This exhibition is not just cars, motorcycles, engines and so on. It is very well constucted, lots of interactive attractions, some design, art and history, too. We arrived at the time museum opens and then there was not a queue to the ticket booth. Later on we saw a long line. Even though there are many people visiting the museum, it does not feel crowdy.

If you’re a car nut, this is a must see while in Munich. The museum was busy the morning I visited and there was a line to enter the museum due to them spacing out the number of people they let enter at one time. People who had purchased tickets online had a separate entrance. Beware that there are certain items and size bags that are not allowed in the museum. Free lockers are provided, but they require a euro coin which is returned when you retrieve your belongings. The BMW Welt is across the street and is free.

Thoroughly enjoyed this "must do" guided tour of the BMW Museum in Munich. Arrived to explore the future of BMW in the Bowl Building. Then rested at M1 Bistro on the terrace before the guided tour started. The guided tour is very informative and relaxing in the new 3-storey building and covers history of motorcycles, aircraft engines and cars, including 2 cars used in James Bond films. Several years from design to production and I now appreciate how much effort BMW apply to maintaining their exemplary reputation. I would also like to thank our guide for a job well done and there was time after the guided tour to revisit and take photos.

As avid BMW fans, my partner and I were excited to visit the museum. After we arrived, we got through the museum in about 50 minutes. Whilst we did like reading about history, seeing classic models and the interactive features available at the museum, it was over far too quickly. We sat in the cafe for hours and found the coffee there was actually quite decent and enjoyed that the most!

It was a rainy morning and so we decided to visit this museum. VERY WELL DONE. It's a very modern museum and full of cars and motorcycles through the ages. We enjoyed very much. It's for people of all ages and we probably spent about 2 hours in the museum. We had lunch in the little cafe and it was very good. Not too bad price wise.

This was our first visit to the BMW Museum, and it didn't disappoint. It was really setup well, so you circle down through the different eras of BMWs, including the early 1920's, war years and modern times. They also have a great section on innovation. The museum's also right next door to BMW Welt, so you can go look at current models and also Mini Coopers and Rolls Royce. Overall, a great way to spend half a day.

If you love BMWs visiting this museum is a must. But the museum isn't as well laid out as other car museums (Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc). There really isn't a flow to the exhibits leaving visitors to wander as they wish without following a story or history line.

Do I need to book tickets for December or can we just walk in on the day and get tickets on the day we go, I don’t want a guided tour or anything just want to walk around ourselves
Can I book a specific hour for my self-guided tour? The website is automatically entering !0:00 for my time slot. I am assuming that if I purchase a ticket, I can use it anytime from 10:00-18:00? Thank you for your quick response!!!
