How did That ’70s Show end?

We’re now just a day away from Netflix’s That ’70s Show spinoff, That ’90s Show. So far, the reception around the new show has been mixed, with many excited to see what it has in store and others feeling like it might not turn out well. It’s always hard to tell how successful a reboot or sequel show might be, but we don’t have long to wait now to watch That ’90s Show! Fortunately, many of the original cast members will be back in some capacity, with Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith reprising their roles as main characters.

That ’90s Show follows Eric and Donna’s teenage daughter Leia, who decides to stay with her grandparents for the summer after befriending the neighborhood kids one visit. If you start watching the new spinoff and need a refresher on how the original show ended, we’ve got you!

That ’70s Show finale recap

The twenty-second episode of season 8 of That ’70s Show marked the finale, appropriately titled “That ’70s Finale.” The episode aired on May 18, 2006 and saw the main characters come together on New Year’s Eve. One of the central plots of the final episode is around Kitty and Red’s plan to relocate to Florida, though Kitty is having doubts. She doesn’t want to leave her home in Wisconsin and eventually admits that to Red, who agrees to stay.

Jackie and Fez had just started dating but are a little bit awkward at the start of the finale, not having their first kiss yet and wanting it to be special. They finally do kiss for the first time at the water tower which they both find to be super romantic, and they become more comfortable with one another.

Kelso returns to Point Place to hang with the crew for the special occasion, and everyone is nervous about Eric coming home from Africa — especially Donna. After Kitty tells Donna she wishes she and Eric worked things out, Donna needs some fresh air and sits outside reminiscing before Eric shows up. Eric explains his regrets about leaving Donna and the two share a kiss, presumably getting back together.

The finale of That ’70s Show ends with the countdown to midnight as the characters officially enter a new decade: the 1980s. The credits roll and we watch the actors sing “Hello It’s Me” by Todd Rundgren in the Vista Cruiser. You can watch the final minutes of the series here:

That ’70s Show is one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 2000s, so I’m sure people will be tuning in for That ’90s Show for the nostalgia factor at the very least. All 10 episodes of the spinoff will be released on Netflix on Thursday, Jan. 19.
