Finally after all these years I got my second dose of 21 Guns. I've been loving Salute for about 15 years and always found it difficult to find subsequent releases or went for something else. Well my friends, (and I say friends because this stuff is so obscure that if you're even remotely interested enough to read up on this group we are kindred spirits enough to be friends), I knew right away this was the same singer and guitarist that made Salute. Undeniable sound and feel that matches the original. Unfortunately, the production is also undeniably poor which I didn't take note of prior to purchasing. It's not horrible compared to old school cassettes, it's better than that, but after 20 years of listening to laser I was a bit discouraged. Pushing that aside and reading the liner notes I realized my oversight; "DEMO" in the title. This album is a compilation of demos from the Salute era, hence the undeniable sound. So if you're looking for new music from the great bands of the era prior to the tainting of so many of their peers with age, influenced by the "progression" of the genre since, you will enjoy this album. The production isn't horrible it just isn't very polished; basically sounds like Salute muffled a bit. For those reading unfamiliar with 21 Guns think Bon Jovi New Jersey era or Trixter.

First off, I love this album and am so glad I bought it! I like the stripped down, a little rough around the edges production values. All the songs are excellent, Scott Gorham plays great guitar throughout, Tommy is a great vocalist (but on harder songs his vocal clarity is lacking), and musically whomever came up with the melodies and the catchy hooks, fantastic job! Many of these songs are getting stuck in my head, "White Lies", "The Picture", to name a few. According to the liner notes by Leif, this is the album that would have been released after "Salute". In that alternate universe this would have been my favorite 21 Guns album. Four great songs "Blood Gone Bad", "The Picture", "Underground" and "Do I Do" (which is entitled "No Soul" on "Nothing's Real") appear on "Nothing's Real". Two of those 4 songs, "The Picture" and "Blood Gone Bad" are actually "bonus tracks" on "Nothings Real" while "Underground" and "Do I Do" are very different from the versions that appeared on that album. (And for my money much better versions. I lLove Scott's guitar on this version of "Underground"). All things considered this album is not a redundancy of "Nothings Real" and for me is actually better. I would rate the albums 1A and 1B, with "Salute" number 1C. All 3 albums are great. Too bad there isn't more music to enjoy from these guys!
P.S. The cover version of the McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" is very good. (Entitled "Amazed" on this CD).
P.S.S The last 2 songs on this CD are different versions of the first 2 songs on "Nothing's Real", I assume these versions are sung by Tommy and the guitar by Scott is more raw and in your face. Good stuff.

hello, i am very pleased with this cd, its good to hear stuff that the thin lizzy members have done outside of the main group, its a good collection of songs previously not released, also pleased with the quick delivery time, thank you.
