- liselotteMunich, Germany8 contributionsMy family and I had a fantastic visit to this museum. If you arrive via the Rhine River, you can easily navigate without a guide—just use a map. The museum is conveniently located less than a quarter mile from the port and is a straightforward find on Google Maps.
Despite having to queue behind a lively group of 6-year-olds to get photos and videos inside the fire truck, the experience was definitely worth the wait!
We spent several hours exploring but still didn't manage to see everything. The museum boasts a wide array of fascinating exhibits, with informative descriptions available in both English and German.Written April 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Personally from the outside I found the building didn’t have a wow factor and even the interior was quite plain and uninspiring.Written May 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Peter RDartford, UK1,272 contributionsOn the tour from our boat the last area to visit was the old Jewish quarter. The history of the Jews in Speyer where they have been for over 1000 years was explained. We then had a short visit to the mikvah or ritual bath where again its use in the Jewish religion was explained to us.Written May 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Peter RDartford, UK1,272 contributionsAlthough from the outside this gothic style church doesn’t shout come and visit, once inside you will be amazed. There are some amazing stained glass windows which are beautifully set off by the clever use of coloured lighting which is played onto the high ceiling of the church. When we visited there was a very helpful and friendly gentleman who gave us a short history of the church. This church in my opinion is certainly worth visiting over the main cathedral.Written May 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AnnindelmarDelmar, NY13 contributionsThis is a gorgeous baroque church with an interesting history. There is a little bit of information about it in English and a volunteer present, who may or may not speak English. We had a very nice experience communicating with the volunteer in our broken German.Written June 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - The Yank in FrankfurtFrankfurt, Germany15 contributionsWe visited the temporary exhibit on the Hapsburg dynasty that's scheduled to close on 16 April 2023. It gives a good overview of how the family accumulated power over the centuries to become the final Holy Roman Emperors. The pieces on display were fascinating -- several declarations & treaties with spectacular wax seals, intricate religious & private items such as gold-plated bowls, reliquaries and missals. I was surprised, though, that the signage was exclusively in German; while I can read it, the numerous Americans living in the area (Speyer is near American military facilities) -- or, more important, their visitors -- probably can't, and I'm sure many tourists of other nationalities would have the same problem. An older American lady in front of us in the ticket line was already struggling, and I wonder how much she understood of the exhibit. I think there's an app guide in other languages, but it wasn't promoted prominently, and some visitors might not be able to use it due to EU/U.S. tech compatibility issues.Written March 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Peter RDartford, UK1,272 contributionsIf you leave the Cathedral by the main door and walk straight ahead you are on Maximillian Strasse. At the other end of the Strasse is a large city gate, In between there are a large number of architecturally interesting buildings. There are many cafes, restaurants and local shops on the Strasse.Written May 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Failsafe659Norwich, UK389 contributionsAlthough part of the Technik Museum this can be visited separately as we did. The main attraction was, for us, the collection of mechanical musical instruments. Most of the exhibits are in working condition and many can be heard using coin operated controls. Also on display are many hundreds of dolls, toys, weapons and costumes. There is much to see for all age groups.Written July 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- gentbruggMoscow2,282 contributionsHans Purrmann is German artist, art theorist and collector. He was born and raised in this house, but pretty soon, at the age of 17 went to study to Berlin. Then he lived in Berlin, Paris, Florence, Switzerland and only sometimes visited his father's house. Even for rest he preferred Bodensee lake. And only in the later years, when fell the regime that declared his art "degenerate", he returned to Germany. Now this is quite a nice looking house restored and used as a museum of the artist, in which he even kept his workshop. Although, of course, there are only several things of Purrman's private life, the rest is about 70 items, mainly paintings, watercolors, sculptures. But museum relatively frequently organizes here art exhibitions. Not Cezanne, Matisse, Schtuck with whom Purman was friendly and whose paintings was collecting as art collector, but the new young artists.Written February 5, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
