Ghost Ship (2002) vs Tag (2015). Which one has the best opening?

So when you think of Ghost Ship, most likely the very first thing that springs to mind is the opening. Tons of ppl enjoying a night out on deck when suddenly they are all sliced in half. Easily one of the greatest horror movie opening scenes.

Then there is Tag. A Japanese horror film I highly recommend you watch if you haven't seen it yet. I won't spoil anything, so for those who have watched it, you know what happens in the opening scene...

Which one of the 2 did you find more effective?

For me, it's Tag.

Never heard of Tag .  At first I thought you were talking about the Ed Helms movie

Nah, this one has some fun and inventive death scenes. It's such a strange but cool film.

LMAO, same! I was like, how can you compare a dumb comedy with Ghost Ship?

I loved the start of Tag up until around the halfway point..I'm not sure if I fell asleep, but I totally lost what was going on in the movie after that point. I much prefer the opening to Ghost Ship, I remember watching it for the first time and that opening blew me away.

You could have watched the whole thing and still lost what was going on. That movie got weird as hell.

Yeah, it really falls off after the opening. Just like Ghost Ship!

One of these very obscure horror movies. The music from the Tag opening sounds weirdly similar to the The Walking Dead opening theme.

The opening of tag was great and it gets my vote.

That said i felt like tag started off very strong and went downhill awfully fast. I was lost so quick, it just seemed to get more and more bizarre/absurd. I'm a huge sono fan but it just wasn't for me.

Yeah, I can't say I understood anything about that movie 😅. But the kills were fun atleast.

100% lol

Definitely Tag!

I love that movie

Ghost ship is iconic too though

Oh hell yeah, someone else who has seen both of these and likes to compare how killer their openings are. I think Tag was better. Even though I heard what happens, I wasn't prepared for how nutso it was.

Tag for me too it's so fun

Also when I think of that opening I remember a time where my mother who doesn't watch Any horror started to describe the intro to me and how it scared my little brother when it was shown on American TV during an evening talkshow and at the time I was so surprised at the fact that Sono was being talked about in a mainstream show (wish I could remember which one it was but searching for it now doesn't turn up anything)

Tosh.0 showed a clip of the opening back in the day. That is probably where your brother saw it

That must have been it.. Thanks!

Aw, your poor brother! Hope it didn't scare him too much 🥹.

Sono is a great filmmaker. Tokyo Gore Police and Exte are some of his best. Weird films but highly entertaining.
