Dr. Hakim received her medical degree from Damascus University School of Medicine in 1992. For two years, she worked at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD as research fellow before she started her residency. Dr Hakim completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medical Education in New Jersey in June 1999.  She completed her Endocrinology Fellowship at George Washington University in Washington, DC in June 2001.

Dr. Hakim joined an endocrinology group in Rockville, MD from 2001 through 2003.  Then she moved to Frederick to start her practice with Frederick Internal Medicine and Endocrinology Service. Dr Hakim is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She is also certified in ultrasound and ultrasound-guided biopsies of the neck (E.C.N.U.). 

Dr Hakim’s major interest is treating thyroid disease, performing thyroid ultrasound, ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspirations and Ethanol Percutaneous Injection for the treatment of thyroid cysts. She is licensed for administration of radioactive iodine treatment for thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism. Dr. Hakim’s other interest is treatmenting Diabetes and Obesity, analyzing continuous glucose monitoring studies, and managing patients on insulin pumps.  Dr Hakim also interested in treating patients with other endocrine diseases like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCO’S), Osteoporosis and Parathyroid disease.

Dr. Hakim is an active member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and American Thyroid Association. She has been awarded fellowship status in the American College of Endocrinology (F.A.C.E.)
