Summary

  • Lizzy Caplan, who played Lula May in Now You See Me 2, is notably missing from Now You See Me 3's cast lineup.
  • Despite Isla Fisher's return, there's room for both female Horsemen in the main cast - it's disappointing to see Caplan absent.
  • Ruben Fleischer will direct Now You See Me 3, featuring most of the original cast from the previous films.

With Now You See Me 3 officially in the works, the news that a certain cast member might not be returning is nothing short of frustrating. Following years of speculation, Now You See Me 3 was recently confirmed to be in the early stages of development. While most of the main cast from the previous two installments are set to return, alongside a handful of new Now You See Me cast members, there is one former Now You See Me star who's notably and annoyingly missing from the line-up.

The first two Now You See Me movies follow a team of magicians known as the "Four Horsemen" who use their skills to pull off elaborate heists. Both films featured ensemble casts made up of well-known stars. Even before Now You See Me 2 released, rumors of another sequel were floating around in addition to a possible spinoff focused on Jay Chou's Li. Though there were some development delays, many of the big names associated with the series have been confirmed for Now You See Me 3, but a big player in Now You See Me 2 seems to have been forgotten about.

Lizzy Caplan, who played the Horseman member Lula May in Now You See Me 2 is notably absent from Now You See Me 3's line-up. Caplan originally joined the cast of Now You See Me 2 after Isla Fisher was unable to return as the character of Henley Reeves for the sequel due to her being pregnant at the time of filming. Fisher's Now You See Me return is exciting news, particularly for fans of the original movie, but it's disappointing that it comes at Caplan's expense.

Ruben Fleischer, the man behind Zombieland, Venom, and Uncharted, has been hired to direct Now You See Me 3.

As it stands, the rest of the main cast of 2013's Now You See Me will be returning for the third film in the series. This includes all four original horsemen: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, and Isla Fisher. On top of that, Mark Ruffalo is also set to reprise his role as FBI agent/fellow magician Dylan Rhodes. Meanwhile, Morgan Freeman will once again play the so-called magic debunker, Thaddeus Bradley. They will be joined by Barbie star Ariana Greenblatt, as well as Dominic Sessa and Justice Smith, who will all be playing new characters.

Isla Fisher's Return Shouldn't Keep Lizzy Caplan Out Of Now You See Me 3

There's Surely Enough Room For Two Women In The Main Cast

Even with Fisher onboard Now You See Me 3, it seems silly to keep switching back and forth between the two female members of the Horsemen

Despite being a last-minute addition, Lizzy Caplan was a welcome addition to the Now You See Me series, with the character of Lula May being very different from Fisher's Henley Reeves. She also had excellent chemistry with the other members of the cast. It, therefore, seems almost criminal not to bring her back. Even with Fisher onboard Now You See Me 3, it seems silly to keep switching back and forth between the two female members of the Horsemen, especially given that there's no reason why they can't both be in the film.

Of course, the group is called the Four Horsemen for a reason, but neither the team's name nor its "four-member" policy are set in stone. For starters, the series has already proven with Ruffalo's character, who is shown to be the group's leader in Now You See Me 2, that the rule can be broken. Though Caplan isn't the only cast member missing from the Now You See Me 3 cast since Michael Caine also doesn't appear to be returning, in Caplan's case, it feels like she's a victim of the movie's pointless one-woman quota.
