Iona Baseball Announces Schedule for Upcoming 2022 Season

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - First year head coach Conor Burke has officially announced the 2022 schedule for the Iona College Baseball program. Iona will be on the road for the first two weekends of the season before returning to City Park for the Gaels home opening series on Saturday, March 3 against Albany.

The Gaels begin the season on the road in Norfolk, Virginia to take on reigning 2021 Conference USA Champions, Old Dominion on Friday, February 18 for a three game series. Iona will then travel down south to face Tennessee the following weekend for a three-game series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, starting on Friday, February 25. The Vols finished last season with a 50-18 record, earning a spot in the SEC Championship game and punching a ticket to Omaha in the College World Series.

The Maroon & Gold return to the Northeast for their home opener Friday, March 3 against Albany. It'll be the first non-conference matchup at City Park, since March of the 2019 season when the Gaels fell to Albany in 12 innings.

Iona will hit the road for a stretch of non-conference games before MAAC play begins, starting with a three-game series against Delaware beginning on Friday, Mar 3, followed by a single midweek road contest against Stony Brook on March 16. The road trip continues with a weekend series against NEC foe LIU starting on Friday, March 19, and the trip concludes with a Wednesday matchup against Fairleigh Dickinson.

The Gaels will open MAAC play at home against Rider on Friday, March 25 for a three-game series that runs through the entire weekend. It'll be the first matchup between the Gaels and Broncs since the 2019 season when the Maroon & Gold took the series two out of three. Iona will travel to Stony Brook to wrap up the season series on Wednesday, March 30 for a single game matchup before traveling to New Jersey for a three game weekend slate against Monmouth starting Friday, March 31.

With the calendar turning to April, the Gaels will travel to Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday to conclude it's two-game series before staying out on the road for a weekend three-game matchup against Canisius, scheduled to begin on Friday, April 8. The Gaels came out victorious 8-6, during the last meeting between the two schools last season.

The following weekend the Gaels return home for a series against Saint Peters' starting on Friday, April 15. The Peacocks and the Gaels haven't squared off since the conclusion of the 2019 season. Iona will travel to Piscataway, New Jersey for a single game matchup against Rutgers before returning to City Park for a trio of games against Quinnipiac starting on April 22.

Sandwiched in between weekend conference play is a pair of mid-week non-conference games starting in the Bronx against Fordham on Monday, April 26, the schools last met during the 2017 season. The following day Iona travels to Queens to take on St. John's part of a two-game series with the second game taking place on Tuesday, May 11. The Gaels will look to avenge both their losses suffered to the Red Storm during the 2019 season.

April concludes with a conference road series against Marist starting on Friday, April 29, marking the first meeting between the two teams since the 2018 season. Entering the last month of regular season play the Gaels will start May off traveling to Hempstead Long Island to take on Hofstra. The last three weekends of the season are dedicated to MAAC play. The Gaels will play their final home series starting on Friday, May 6, when they take on Siena and will complete its regular season portion of the schedule on the road against Manhattan beginning on Friday, May 20.
