Harrisonburg Reviews

Harrisonburg is a great city, it's partially a college town but it's a cool place to live. There's a lot of beautiful communities that are open so that people can really find their home here. It's pretty small but has a many layers and history to it. There are a lot of fun things to do and super good food spots especially downtown!
Living close to the downtown area gives you walking access to restaurants, shops, and community. There are always different events being held in the downtown area, sports events on James Madison University's campus, and many local businesses. There is a farmer's market held downtown, local businesses and local restaurants located here. On the other side of town, across from I-81, there are more chain restaurants, the mall, and super stores (like Walmart and Target). Each side of town has a lot to offer and you can get the small town local vibe downtown or the busy shopping hustle and bustle on the other side of town. In the surrounding community there are many options for sight seeing, hiking, and getting out in nature. It is a fairly small town with a great community if you get involved. The one thing I would like to see changed is better advertisement for the activities going on downtown, because it is not too publicized other than word of mouth.
Horrible area. I am African American with a developmental disability. My family moved out here from CA, the area is highly racist.
My parents were told they don’t hire black people, they keep trying to terminate my disability service because im not in a wheel chair or have down syndrome.
Disability services called me lazy and my parents offensive names. When im currently in the process of working with resources they help for couple days then people stop responding without a reason and you have to start over with finding someone new.
They call black people poor and the town is extremely boring, I wanted to leave for years.
I wouldn’t suggest this area, especially if you are a minority, absolutely not. You couldn’t pay me billions nor offer anything in the world for me to stay here.
