- Roberta KWhite Rock, NM15 contributionsInteresting museum with very friendly staff/volunteers. I really enjoyed my visit and learning about the railroad.Written July 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Roy CWhispering Pines, NC995 contributionsThis is a really nice little museum located on the second floor of a municipal building. One side is dedicated to the different wars. The other has the various artifacts one would find in such a museum. Of particular interest were photos taken by a local man at the end of World War II at the Liberation of Buchenwald. Supposedly there are more, but they are not on display. (I do not believe children should be exposed to a few of those photos).
On our way up a short hill from the parking behind the building, a man going down noted my "Air Force Retired" hat and told me to make certain I got a "goodie bag." The bag contained various things, including a letter from a child thanking the recipient for his/her service, a can of honey roasted peanuts, a scarf, and other things. It was really very nice. I'm so glad we went.
The museum, a book by a local lawyer and WWII GI and the goodie bag all were free.Written June 27, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - deeremom430Wilmington, NC652 contributionsNice stop along I-77. Facility was clean and well maintained. Restrooms were clean. Outside area also neat and clean, no trash. We wandered into the shop, we were the only customers. We only purchased a few post cards but the shop was neat, clean and well maintained. Outside is a beautiful Veteran's Memorial with benches where you can sit and reflect.Written January 21, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WVTraveler88Princeton, WV41 contributionsThis amazing facility provides cultural opportunities for the entire community. Whether visiting for a performance, a meeting, a community gathering, or a visit to view art exhibits, every trip to Chuck Mathena Center is worthwhile. My most recent visit was to take part in a Princeton Rotary event named “Bras for a Cause.” This worthwhile project raises funds, along with providing underclothing for women who are domestic abuse victims and who need resources that the community can provide.
The Chuck Mathena Center was beautifully decorated, there were great foods provided, and all in all, it was a wonderful evening.Written March 5, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Two future presidents stayed there as Union soldiers.. Well preserved and free for the public to visit. The chamber of commerce is in there now and are so happy tohave visitors. seeing the original floors and hearing of the houses history made for a wonderful time. recently added to The West Virginia Civil War Trails stop- a must stop for history buffs and lovers of old homesWritten December 29, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jesse ENorth Lewisburg, OH780 contributionsHunnicutt Field is a true hidden gem. The aprk is a little bit tough to find tucked away in a school complex close to downtown but it is well worth the hunt. The park is home to the Princeton Rays professional baseball team of the Appalachian League. The fun starts with free parking. Ticket prices are incredibly low. The staff iwas as friendly as any I've ever encountered. Before the game even started, I was floating on air by enjoying some of the best for that I have ever had at a minor league park. They have concession specials most nights. I had beef tips with a perfectly cooked baked potato. No alcohol is served at Hunnicutt Field. Getting to your seats can be a challenge as steep steps or a long ram are the only way to get to the seating area. Once in your seats you enjoy fantastic sightlines. Appalachian League baseball is good baseball and I enjoyed myself thoroughly with the exception of the ardous walk to my seat. If you have mobility issues, bring a wheelchair and ask for handicapped seats.Written July 13, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
