The following contains spoilers for The Flash Season 8, Episode 17, "Keep It Dark," which aired Wednesday, June 8 on The CW.

As The Flash races into its final stretch of Season 8 episodes, the Scarlet Speedster has to contend with a new fast-paced figure operating in Central City, with Team Flash one step away from discovering who this mysterious arrival is. And with Iris West trapped in the Still Force, Allegra Garcia continues to take point at Central City Media while her past and present collide in a new bombshell report. Targeted by powerful villains, Allegra will have to prove herself as both a leader and superhero while Barry is preoccupied with his own super-powered investigation.

After detecting a fire at Ivo Labs on the other side of Central City, The Flash learns that a new speedster arrived before him and put out the blaze before leaving ahead of Barry’s arrival. Team Flash regroups at S.T.A.R. Labs and speculates on whom the mystery speedster could be, while Barry reveals that the possibly villainous Caitlin Snow has not contacted him since he dismantled her efforts to resurrect Killer Frost. Allegra's old friend Lydia is targeted by a local gang moving into Central City, with Allegra agreeing to protect her while interviewing her for an exposé on their activities.

Going over the evidence, Barry and Chester P. Runk deduce that the speedster used the fire as cover to steal the experimental Newton Battery from Ivo Labs. To confirm that the Reverse-Flash hasn’t regained his powers and potentially obtain insight on the speedster thief, Barry heads to Lian Yu, where Eobard Thawne has been imprisoned since his Reverse-Flashpoint plot unraveled. Thawne appears to be unstable after having his speed taken from him but is somehow aware that Frost has died, taunting a frustrated Barry with this knowledge before admitting he’s jealous of the unidentified newcomer.

The gang targeting Lydia has hired light-based criminals Doctor Light and Sunshine to eliminate her before she can provide incriminating evidence to Central City Media. The assassins strike while Allegra is interviewing Lydia, with Chester providing a rudimentary force field to protect them. Allegra, Lydia and the news team try to figure out their next moves -- but Allegra’s estranged co-worker Taylor exposes Allegra’s own criminal past and connection to Ultraviolet, leading her colleagues to visibly distrust Allegra as they remain under siege in their offices.

Allegra regains her co-workers’ trust by revealing herself to be the new Ultraviolet and then singlehandedly confronts Sunshine and Doctor Light. The Flash reveals this is a distraction, allowing the Central City Media news team to broadcast Lydia’s interview to the public. Having failed in their mission, the two supervillains retreat and are hunted by the police. Allegra and Taylor reconcile in the aftermath.

Based on his conversation with Thawne, Barry realizes the new speedster is still not used to his or her powers and catches them returning the Newton Battery to Ivo Labs. After a brief chase, the speedster reveals herself to be Meena Dhawan -- a scientist who gained a temporary super-speed boost and was studying the battery to see if she could prolong it. Barry decides she is not a threat and offers to mentor her in honing her abilities, which Meena happily accepts. All's well that ends well for Team Flash.

Developed for television by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns, The Flash airs Wednesdays at 8pm on The CW.
